oh how sad. I am so very sorry hon. Glad you got to be with him, but I sure wish you were able to take some time off.

I hope you're taking good care of yourself as much as you can.

Sounds like Jonah was ready. He picked his place and time. He is free now.. Run free and play hard at the bridge, little Jonah!
Hugs Lilspaz.. :hugs:

I went to bed early last night, and only woke up a few times...realized I didn't need to check on Jonah and curled up and went back to sleep (after respositioning NOrby on my side...he's used to this).

Today's update...

Melvin is seeming to be on the mend...which is great! Yara is cleaning up as well.

Clemmie sounds HORRIBLE, she sounds like Dexter did when he was really sick...I can hear her approaching, its like a cow bell :( She's still running and active but she's not improving, plus I found a mammary tumour in her armpit (she's spayed but it was late in life and this tumour could've been lurking as a seedling before she was done).

My worst fears are starting to realize though. Charity's crazy sneezing is now a terrible respiratory infection that has moved into her lungs. She's on baytril and zithromax and now I will add doxycycline for an additional punch. Now I wait for the babies to get sick, now that they aren't nursing any longer (I separated the girls out last night) and their mom's immune system (as much as it was) is not covering them. THIS is when they will come down with the virus. :undecided:

I took baby girl pics today, just because they make me laugh. Charity is not much more than a baby herself so I was almost getting her to play as well :D

oh so praying that the babies don't get sick too. what an ordeal!
glad the babies are able to cheer you up some and I hope Charity is able to play and enjoy herself after all her hard work caring for those babies.

and I hope you get some down time as well.

:hugs:

Poor girl!!! That sounds horrible! Strange how she still looks bright , though...

It just went into her lungs today, before this it was excessive sneezing...hopefully with all the abs hitting hard it gets out of her lungs quickly. I HATE that sound....

oh my, I've never heard at before- and I hope I never do! *hugs* Shelagh! I've got fingers, toes, and paws crossed for you and your kiddos! <3

Do you use a corticosteroid at times like this, if it's inflammation? Poor thing. You must be exhausted, Shelagh. You aren't getting any regular sleep at nights, are you? You do wonderful rattie work, but must also take care of yourself if you're to be able to do for them. I hope you have folks right around you who can help and support you at these difficult times.

:sad3:  RIP Jonah  :sad3: :hugs: :cuddle: Healing vibes to the rest of your babies from me and the 12 pack :cuddle: :hugs: Thank you for posting the video now I know what to watch/listen for in my babies.

Does steaming help with this type of thing? Perhaps put a pot of water on the stove and let it boil to raise the humidity?

I might try nebulizing her tomorrow night with the isotonic saline if she's still that gucky. I was dealing with a Melvin downtrun tonight...sigh.

I use the steroid more for constricted lungs...or if the rat is unable to get oxygen in and needs fast relief of inflammation in the lungs. I am watching her carefully...waiting for that type of issue, then she will get an injection...hopefully the addition of the doxy will tip things back into our favour. She's such a beautiful little girl.

I AM tired, slowly getting worn down, a lot of it is from the consistent stress and worry, but I'll get through since I have my Rat Shack family to lean on.

I really hope the Doxy does help her. Poor little girl... sending tons of healing vibes to your sweety (and all the other sick ones... and to you too, so you don't get to the point where you really need them.). How is she doing today?

What's is wrong with Melvin? Is he better today?

Melvin's lungs are very damaged (all 4 of the Niagara Nakies are but he's the worst). He goes through these phases of being lethargic and cold and having trouble breathing. I find him standing holding the bars to stretch out his body to be able to get more oxygen into his lungs. He's losing weight rapidly as well. Sometimes he needs real help, but other times I just tuck him into my fleece jacket (thank you Althea!) and warm him back up...feed him some warmed ensure and baby cereal. Last night he spent the entire night sleeping in the pillow cave beside the fleece wrapped snugglesafe. This morning he was stablized again.

Poor poor boy... respiratory issues are my worst nightmare, maybe because I'm a bit asthmatic myself. Double dose of healing vibes to your sickies...

Poor baby! Do I understand that you have an oxygen concentrator now? Do you use that very often for them, or is that a last resort if they're panicking?
(I used mine once to keep my girl Lily comfortable until she could be PTS...)
