Having tried to do some research I stumbled upon this rat forum with people who've had similar thing happen and I cant really find anything else on it!
My male rat who is currently Enrofloxacin for an URI suddenly has a rather strange issue with his penis. It wont go back inside its sheath and I've been having to wet it so it doesnt get dried out. There is a decent sized lump near the base of his penis kinda towards the left side a bit more than directly behind his penis.
I dont know what this could be and I would appreciate any help!
I can post pictures if that'd help just ask!

I don't have much experience with this issue (thank goodness; I have two boys), but I found this link that might help: http://ratguide.com/health/reproductive/paraphimosis.php

Sometimes the forum gets a little slow around this time of year, so don't be worried if you don't get an immediate response. However, the situation is probably a little bit immediate, so that link should help for now.

Good luck! Also, Goosemoose pet forums has a pretty good rat forum too, if you want to pop over there.

Definitely post a pic, it sounds like an internal swelling (either mass or abscess) is pushing his penis out of the body.

Keeping it moist you will need something like water-based KY Jelly...its best. How much is sticking out?

If the lump is above and to the side of the penis then you are probably looking at a preputial abscess, if its below it could be a few things...the pic will help us determine.

how old is your boy?

You can also give metacam (if you have any) or infant liquid ibuprofen to try to reduce the swelling and have it slip back in the body.

Here is one of my experiences with a young male neutered the week before.

That page is very helpful! I got him into a vet appointment today in just a few hours as talking to my vet she said to bring him in immediately!

Sorry it took a bit to get a passable photo I have very shaky hands and Cola doesnt like being flipped over AT ALL. http://imgur.com/yQJmjoC
The bump is very much above and to the side of his penis. I got him a vet appointment for later today ):
He is coming up on his 3rd birthday very rapidly only a couple of months away!
Its really strange he's never had any issues at all in his life till recently when he got the URI. His brother and cagemate also has some worrying signs today too he's going back to the vet too his whole left side of his face is swollen two times its regular size. I dont know what could have cause these irritations as they are on fleece and care fresh and I clean it all once a week with tidying in between.

Do you think its possibly just their ages and stuff? time catching up?? sorry if this is hard to read I'm running on little to no sleep as I've been up with them making sure they're okay since 5am.

Them both being on antibiotics and these sort of things just appearing has me very worried.

is this the location? on either side as the preputial glands are on both sides

The swollen face is not something that normally happens with preputial abscesses or even tumours. Poor bubby, let us know what the vet say. Mention preputial abscesses if the location is right as they might not be aware of them. Its an abscess of the preputial gland.

Sorry for the late reply the vet visit didn't go very well at all. On inspection the vet assumed they both had tumors. Unfortunately I didn't have the upwards of 800$ to do the exams they needed to test of they were absecces and have them drained or tumors and have them removed.
): my boys are over the rainbow bridge now.. I got their paw impressions done. Thank you for your help though I greatly appreciate it. I wish things would have gone better..

I feel really guilty rnow because I just didnt have the 600+ at the time. .. I'm an artist and times are kind of slow right now.
): I hope you all wont judge me for putting my boys down I just didnt have the means to do all the tests...

Not your fault, you couldn't know the type of vet you were seeing. There are a lot of vets who either don't know much about rats, and are unwilling to learn and some that will just try to make money off of you. If your boys were in pain then it's probably better you gave them that last gift of love especially with swollen faces but next time if you are not sure if what the vet is telling you, take your rats home, ask on here or research online. Preputial abscesses I usually take care of at home. $800 to stick a needle in a lump to see if theres pus and bacteria inside is pure gouging of a distraught rat parent. :/ my first exotic vet was just like this.

I will most certainly ask more questions on here next time. I have three girls left and a single boy. I think I'm going to do some research into neutering and stuff because there is no way I'm letting my single male be alone.
): It was painfully expensive, my experience in Arizona exotic vets are extremely expensive I do really like my vet but it was a different vet from usual..
I'm so very sorry for your losses. :(
Thank you so much it means a lot to me.

We have 2 male rats and my grey one not himself keeps cleaning himself and licking down below he hasn't got no lumps or bumps tho took him vets 135 pound on antibiotics and pain relief so taking that for 7 days hopefully he will feel better I bloody hope so I feel so sad atm and help less
