I think they like to explore the new cages. I do make sure they go in of their own volition and have an opportunity to poke around before I shut the door. That way they don't feel trapped.

You mean moving ratties into a new cage? I never did anything special other than letting them all go in. I never saw any adverse reaction to a new cage and I've changed cage often.

Ok thanks ya my two boys got a big upgrade today... they went from a 10 gallon tank with a highrise top to this uploadfromtaptalk1399948511372.jpg

Hey how do you keep fabric down in the bottom of the cage.... every day im fixing it over and over and every morning its in a ball in the middle of their home

I am wondering this about The new girl maizy. Her coat is so soft, long and wavy that she literally almost slips out of your hands. I never seen a coat like this.

Hello all! Just have a quick question to contribute with: I know that many of you sew your own rattie hammocks etc., and I am curious as to what sewing machine everyone finds to be the best to sew through thick fleece layers? I have broken two sewing machines so far by sewing a three layer hammock so am at my wits-end sewing hammocks for my girls. I have heard a brother machine is quite good? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Also, nothing pricy as I don't sew much, so the machine would be only used to make my rattie necessities. The things we buy for our loves...they are all spoiled ratten:p

I have a Brother and I love it. I have the middle price range model but didn't really need all the features as all I do it rat stuff too! I would say get the least fancy model new and it should be plenty for your needs. Should cost 75-100$

She does look quite silky but it looks like a normal coat. I thought the silky rats had longer fur?

This is my reference I found online that made me think he might be " Silk

SlkslkSilk rats have a very soft and shiny coat, it has a kind of iridiscent sheen to it giving it a slight "wet" appearance*and their hair lies flat against them. Most silk rats have guard hairs, approximately 10% do not. This is especially noticed on males, who stay soft throughout their lives with no guard hairs. It is a co-dominant gene.

Double Silk

SlkSlkDouble Silk is the same as Silk, but the 'wet' look is almost doubled, along with the sleekness and length of the hair. Double Silk is caused from a Slkslk x Slkslk pairing.

Patchwork Silk

Silky

Silky rats are increasingly rare, it seems only on breeder, the founding breeder of the variety, still has silky rats. Silky rats have no guard hairs, their undercoat is twice as long and is very soft. It is a gorgeous variety and I hope it comes back again. Silky rats were almost lost due to people out-crossing it to other coat types so much it almost became extinct. Silky is not to be confused with silk, they are two different varieties."
