Thanks Sheldon about the fleece part. I thought it might the poryphrin, but im not sure.. is there a way to tell the difference?

It may be a URI, but he didn't have anything before I got him.. ill Change to fleece today after I get the ferret multi level cage.

Edit: I have another question.
I know rat balls are bad for long periods of time. Will it hurt the rat if I only put him in it to clean his cage thoroughly?

My experience with the ball was the first day I ever had rats and it terrified my poor baby. I promised not to do it to her ever again. ;)

It does sound like porphyrin, it's typical for them to get it when entering a new home. Yes, I would definitely change the bedding, just for now, to see if that's an irritant to him. If he continues though and there are other symptoms like loud breathing or wheezing, he'll need to see a vet.

Oh that's smart! Maybe ill do that with his. ^^

I did have another question. Ive Been researching. He seems to either be grooming himself or scratching a LOT. Also the poryphrin is shown on his sides of his fur. And once in a while I see it dry on his eyes. Should I be concerned that he is sick or just still stressed from moving to his new home? Ive only had him a few days.

Okay tsvm ♡

Edit: I read revolution is safe however I didnt see it at the pet stores.. is there another brand?
Would advantage work for mites?

I just bought a ball. Not to put my rats in to run around, but to hang in their cage to sleep in. :)

I tried that with mine but I think she had developed a hatred for it cuz she kept cutting it down and taking everything out of it that I had put in like the thing had cooties or something.

I think Revolution is prescription only but you can get ivermectin over the counter. Just be VERY careful about concentration and dosing. There are several threads on her about it I think.

Simon hasn't been in the ball. Its just sitting there on the floor. XD she must of dispised the ball.

Ohh. I shall have to go look at those threads then. Thanks again so much for the help. It is truly appreciated by myself and by simon. Oh and my fiance. Hes tired of hearing me worry. XD

Edit: it is possible the faux fur makes a rat sneeze?

Thanks again Joanne...tossed it...fiance said to keep it in case of emergency but I just cant ever see putting it in their bowls again...I'd rather make them something from odds and ends around the house

I have a hairless rat. How do you get the other rats to play more gently with him in the cage?

There is little you can do about that I think. You can, however clip their nails to help minimize injuries.

Rats can get jealous, right?
I had to put Milo into a separate cage because he was picking on my hairless rat, Maddox. Well, I had Maddox out and he was just lounging on the recliner with me and then I brought out milo. Milo was fine and chilling staying away from Maddox but the moment I was rubbing Maddox's ear Milo came over and bit me. Skin didn't break, butbit was still a hard bit. Then he went and bit Maddox.
