Tanner is still going strong and being a happy man BUT - he now has 2 abcesses growing on incision site :redhot:

My vet is away this week, but I took him to my next favorite vet on Monday. We added Clavamox to the Baytril and are now waiting to see if it helps, or else it's back to surgery. This is really not my preferred option, obviously, but the abcesses are making him quite uncomfortable so I am about to call the clinic and reserve a spot for next week. On Saturday, I'm taking Cookie in to trim her teeth (my vet is in that day) so I'll take Tanner along and ask for her opinion. I'm pretty sure she'll agree to surgery, so the appointment will already be set. :?

Hopefully its just reaction to the suture material..is it lumpy or is it open and smells rotten?

The incision is now closed - no smell, but two growing round hard lumps underneath it that are moving around. The vet I saw Monday said one abcess was just below the skin, and the other was within the scarring tissu.

Oh that does sound like suture reaction...those should resolve easily. *whew*

Bronwen had one, and OMG I ran her to Dr Munn who laughed at me. Told me not to worry and it would be fine. it surfaced and popped (and a teeny bit of stitch was in the pus), I flushed it once and it was done. :)

Yuck! Not something I wanted to hear. Poor Guy.

Sending you guys some warm thoughts and love!

they are usually pretty small :) Miracles don't always work out perfectly, a couple of suture abscesses are a small price to pay for this Miracle.

AMEN to that!!!

That's a heck of a miracle that he is here today! My vet told me a human being would not have survived!

Lemme tell ya - Tanner gets lots of kisses these days! :cheeky:

Update on Tanner.

He is still going strong - and so is one of the two abcesses. The top one, the one that was mingled with scarring tissus, seems to be mostly gone, but the other one is getting bigger and bigger, and Tanner is less and less comfortable - again. As yesterday morning I had noticed a darker spot on the abcess location, I decided to compress it last night. But when I got home, the spot looked more like blood underneath the skin than the typical black spot that forms a head on an abcess. I did compress it anyway and tried to squeeze it, but in doubt, I did not insist. This is what the abcess looked like

Nope, he was not too happy with the position

so I requested some help!

What do you think - abcess getting ready to pop or something else? :?

That's what I thought. I had him added to my list of patients to see my vet this Friday... I almost hope it pops before then - while I am right next to him to give him a good clean up (hydrotherapy)

I got my wish!!! :joy:

When I got home from work, Tanner's abcess had burst! I still don't like the way it looks, and it seems there was another one hidden there that still need some growing, but at least, half the mass is gone! I sent the picture below to the vet and got a call back that they were a bit worried about what they saw. :( Since they called while Trails, my new guinea pig, was being "delivered" to me, I have to call back tomorrow to book an appointment and get more details. All I can say is that Tanner is popcorning a lot and doesn't seem bothered by that black spot at all. Keeping my fingers crossed - and if you have some more healing vibes to spare, I'm sure Tanner would gladly accept them...

Putting the picture under spoiler for the sensitive souls, but it's not that bad, really
