Awwww he is darn sweet. His ears didn't go down that much maybe he is a dumbo....but who cares he looks so good and healthy even with the stitches. Bet he couldn't hold his paws like that before.

It's all because of you people and of kind donations and well wishes that got Ryder where he is now! One of my rules about foster is I wont get attached and I'll be able to let them go! With Ryder and Badger they were my 5th fosters. I fostered 3 and was able to let them go ..but Ryder and Badger just have this connection to me that I can't let go. I don't think ill ever introduce them to my crew, because my limit to my crew is 9 ..and right now there is 8! so Ryder and Badger will have to chill on their own which I;m sure they don't mind, They are not neutered either obv ..but maybe someday? I was trying to get my numbers down by not adding more ..that never happens ..were in the process of saving to buy a house (my hubby is currently in an apprenticship which finishes in 3 years (in school/work) ..so this is our saving time ..by that time we will be 26! I'll always have a vet fund, but I use it for emergiences only!

aww that poor guy, that incision is huge looking. I am so glad it is working out for you and him. I bet he feel better not lugging that huge thing around.

It's so hard not to get attached to that incredibly sweet face - and I feel so happy knowing that he's staying with you for the rest of his life! Sometimes a connection like that just happens, no matter how we try to save our hearts - I bet he loves you just as much as you love him!

The pictures are adorable. I'm amazed at how alert he is after going through such an ordeal. He and Badger can now enjoy the happiness and love of their new home. Hope he lives a long and healthy life! Way to go Ryder :joy:

I'm SO glad he made it through the surgery OK. Bruising and swelling are worst the second day after surgery, so if he gets a bit more puffy today and tomorrow, that would be expected. I would be more concerned with pain control the next couple of days as opposed to infection, although I supposed the longer the surgery, the higher the risk of infection.
One word of caution if your vet used a mattress suture, ie one long, continuous suture: My rats always chew out a few stitches, but because the others are there, things don't open up. The concern with one continuous suture is that if they chew any part of that suture, the whole thing will come open, instead of one little spot. Just FYI...
Kisses to the man, and to his brother too so he doesn't feel left out!

I have him on baytril now! the stiches are just the one long piece like you said (he did this so if he picked at them! I have metacam, but have not had to use it yet!

He looks like a chipmunk lol...poor bugger. Do they think the skin we get some elasticity back?

:giggle:

Badger is pretty good, sometimes he can be a bully to Ryder, but for the most part his okay ..just gottaa keep a good eye on him while he iis recovering.

I would give him the metacam even if he doesn't seem to need it. Not just for pain but for any swelling and inflammation which is sure to go on, especially with a surgery like this. Keep sniffing the incision, watch for swelling, and especially those cheeks/jowls... you could easily have a seroma build up but remember they are fairly normal.
