Would she be better off with the site open to the air? IE open up the incision? That way it could drain freely. I suppose you can't keep a drain in a rat if you wanted to insert one...

Its a deep thing though...Dr Munn had to basically remove tissue down to the skull. I have to think of it more as a surgical site than an abscess (which is safely encapsulated. A drain on a face is a possibility I guess, but she'd have to wear an elizabethan collar and oooh she would be miserable.

More pics from this morning. I got some of the metro into her and some of the baytril...no metacam yet, but its been 4 days post surgery and she's not exhibiting pain so I might stop forcing that one on her. :p

She's very active, the swelling is down a lot

She decided against this jump...she has been jumping from the bed to the tote (its up a bit higher with the addition of new 4" foam)

She is embarrassingly round LOL

I love how she's got some fuzz on her face - it looks less naked than the rest of her...
Hang in there! I hope the ABs start to kick in soon.

Lilith's attitude is back full force, but she can be sooo sweet and cuddly now that she's no longer the Running Machine. :)

She holds her baytril in her mouth and just blandly looks at me.

Then I give her a few minutes praying some slipped down her throat LOL. Then the fight is on for the metro. She kicks like a cat! I get it in, and the bland look is now accompanied by a glare and a 2 year old's obstinance (human child 2 year old  ).

Eventually I break my own rule and give her a yogie (came with a former rescue) and that does the trick...she swallows fast to grab and eat the yogie LOLOL

The scab is coming off, looks icky to me, but I'll let you guys decide. I send pics to my vet everyday, and he knows that if he says "bring her in tomorrow" it will happen.

You never fail to test my stomach. My hunch is that it looks positive. I just can't bring myself to say it looks good, as these sights never fail to turn my stomach... :sick2:
