If he has paraphimosis (where the penis is sticking out of the body and doesn't retract) then there's something else going on as well. :( Have you checked for penis plugs (he's intact right?), because he may have a blockage and possible a urine infection now.

he needs pain meds to stop the endless cycle of scratching himself raw again...otherwise it will never have a chance to heal.

I had started reading this post when it first showed up here, and couldn't bring myself to continue each day. I had nothing helpful to say, and still don't, but I am thinking of you, Maria-Mar, and Fivela. I'm so sorry for your loss of Buttons. Keep hanging in there, the people who can help you the most are trying so hard to give you help. Good luck, and please keep us posted on Fivela! I am praying he (and YOU) get through this.

How do you check for the plug?... Maybe there's a post about it on the health board? I'll look into it.
I called the vet, and he said he's going to send me more meds by mail (the vet is a long way from here). Because one of the meds is a pill, but i can't make Fivela eat it, he got to smart finding out pills... so the vet is sending me the same med, but liquid. Tomorrow i'll call him about the urine infection/pennis plug too.

Thanks gramma2jaakk :hugs:

Poor guy..

My boy Nero Gets penis plugs.. hes an old boy and can't clean himself there anymore. To check just sit him on your knees (or what ever is most comfortable for him and you) and place 2 fingers on either side of his penis and gently push in, it will pop all the way out and you will see a build up of gunk if their is a plug.. its kinda gross. just wipe off with a warm soft cloth and make sure the penis fully retracts into him.

Oh poor Nero :(
Thanks for the help, i just did what you said!... I couldn't see nothing wrong with his penis though... maybe a little white gunk in the middle, but not too much, so that would be normal right? In the end it retracted, but didn't seemed better...
Don't worry about gross... he has no skin on the top of his head, it's kinda hard to get grosser :p

Today i came back home to find Fivela with the worst diarhea (not sure if i'm spelling right) ever. I gave him a quick bath on warm water to wash away all the poo, as he seemed to feel really bad about it, and washed all the cage too.
He has also scratched himself real bad again, worse than ever... He squeaks in pain with every movement, but seems to feel better after i put the ointment on the wounds (he litterally screams as i make it, although i try to do it gently).
He started drinking water again for the first time in two weeks, and although i'm glad about it, i'm also afraid that can mean he has a fever.
He hasn't been eating his baby food as happilly as before... he seems somehow smaller, and for the first time, i can feel and see all his tail bones. His tail is looking square.
My ex-fiance stopped by, and he was really impressed with Fivela's looks... he says i may not notice the difference from now and before, because i see him everyday, but that he's much thinner...
I know that's true... after the fur on his head was ripped off, i kinda blocked all the weird looking parts from my mind by focusing on his gorgeous big eyes, which are just the same as always

We're going to the vet tomorrow... i wanna do all that is possible, and i'm praying for a miracle, cause i can't see this boy getting weaker and weaker in such short time. It isn't fair for him.

Sweetie you need to insist on pain meds, pain can kill eventually. :( They stop eating, are very unhappy, etc. Pain meds and strong penetrating abs...last chance he's got :(

((hugs))

Yes, i will insist with the vet until he giives us some!... I also want Fivela to do blood analysis, or some analysis to the infected area... i wanna do everything possible, quickly... but i'm also out of money.... let's see how it goes today!...

We just came from the vet :)
We're gonna try one last treatment and see how it goes for a week. If Fivela keeps getting worse, we're doing a scraping (when you remove a little portion of flesh for analysis). I know a week sounds too short, but we're kinda running off time. He used to weight 450gr... now he's only 300gr.
The treatment consists of an antibiotic, a pain killer, a stronger cortizon ointment, and this medicine that's used to treat dangerous skin problems on humans, which is suppose to fight the infection in case there's fungi involved. The vet said that he didn't want to use that before because it's going to affect his liver, but if i give him actimel yogurt everyday it should help avoid liver problems.

Good news is he didn't had any fever and the diarhea is gone. He started to drink water again, and i've seen him eat some dry pasta for the first time in weeks ^_^

Pain meds will be very key here. Hopefully the new treatment helps give some answers... certainly if you see ANY improvement, you may not need to do the skin analysis. I'm glad he is eating and drinking!

I believe that's the "scrapping" i was talking about.
But actually he's doing much better!... This new treatment is working wonders, he doesn't scratch himself so badly and the wounds have a dry look. Dry is good, right? Means the skin is healing... i hope!
This is how the wounds are looking now:

The yellow on his fur and skin is from one of the meds. His skin has some shine due to the ointment.
I don't have a "before" pic to compare... but imagine red skin and yellowish-looking bloody wounds (yellow from infection, not meds).

Oh my. I'm so glad to know that he's doing better. But he's got some ways to go yet.
Does it look like it's healing and then it gets replaced by new skin only to have it become infected again?
How is Fivela acting now? If he active and eating well?

Yes, still a looong way from being ok... but he's better, for the first time since December, so for now i'm happy ^_^

It just looks like the wounds are healing, it's too soon for new skin to grow... they don't seem to become infected again, just to be healing slowly.
He's pretty active (as always, he's never been depressed for more than a day and that was when he felt dirty due to the incontinence), the incontinence is gone, and he's back to drinking water and eating a little bit from everything... but not much. He's still really skinny.

At least there's that, a healthy energy to him. Keeping my fingers crossed he continues to do well.
I'm going to guess it's a resistant staph infection.
