Omg... my rat keeps hurting himself.

I'm getting really confused with Fivela's reaction to the treatment...
On the first week he seemed so much better... His wounds have a more dry look, his skin isn't red anymore, his peeing problem is gone, he's back to eating (although not much) and drinking... so why does he keep losing weight?...
I can feel all the bones in his body now... he looks just like the Little Blue Man that died on my hands last year...
And although his big wounds are looking much better, new ones are appearing, all over his body!...

We're going to the vet again tomorrow, just for a quick look.
Here's a pic of the two of us taken today... my baby

We believe so :(
There's no more antibiotics we can try, these are the stronger possible already, so now we're keeping our fingers crossed that he'll stop losing weight, or else he'll get too weak to keep the treatment and do the biopsy. I'll be keeping track of his weight and giving him as many treats as he acepts.

OMG! that pic makes me so sad :sad3: poor boy. Im glad everything is starting to work out. I hope he gets better soon. Thats just awful he has to go through that, it looks so sore. But he's still a handsom boy!

He is a VERY handsome boy and never lost his spirit, so it's so much easier to look at him and kiss him in person ^_^
I mean, it's hard not to smile when a rat that's looking so awful still finds a way to look as silly as this :giggle:

On a positive note, he gained some weight in the last two days! Yummy treats are working!...

Maria... I am very sorry to say this and I don't mean to come across as harsh as I am happy for you that he is gaining weight.. But I wonder if this is getting a little excessive? He looks very raw and like there is a lot of pain there. I do not want to encourage euthenization, but if you hadn't considered it before maybe you should think about it?

I understand what you mean Avatar, and i've asked the vets about it. I read all about it here too, to be informed and not have it done wrong, and tried to prepare myself to it in case it would be necessary. But the vets answered that when it's time for it, they'll be the ones telling me.
The treatment is working for the first time in months, and if only he can stop losing weight (and we seem to be on the right track) we have a good chance going on here. With the pain meds, he isn't in such pain anymore, and the proof is that he doesn't even scratch himself as he used to. Things are working for the first time. Let's give it some time... if he gets worse, i'll be the first one not standing to see him in pain.

That's also why we took these pics in the first place... we were going to a vet consult, and i wanted a last pic together, in case the vet would say it was time.

You'll know right away if he's too much in pain. They stop playing, they zone out... if he doesn't, I see no reason why you should contemplate euthanasia.
It's also ground breaking what he has and that treatment is working.

You can see on that toilet paper pic how happy and playful he still is ^_^

The vets say this is the ultimate treatment, as there's really nothing stronger to give him, so it's just a matter of time until we know. If he gets worse, there's nothing else we can do. But if things keep on the right track, we have a good chance :)
He's on Rifocina, Melaxicon and Conofite (and yogurt, to balance the Rifocina).

Yay he gained weight, stay positive!, the time may or may not come but you will know if it does that you tryed SO hard and it was just not ment to be. After all he's been through we know he's a strong boy, and a fighter :joy: When it's all he can take he'll tell you, if he's still playing and happy then just love and support him, poor buddy. He's a cutie and I'd still give him kisses!! :giggle: lol It makes me sore to look at his pictures but it does look a lot better! :D

Oh sorry for not posting!...
Slowly, he keeps gaining weight. These new vitamins we added to the treatment seem to give him apetite. The first thing he did this morning was ask me for food! He has a specific way of rubbing himself against the cage bars when he wants a yummy treat xD
So he had rice and chicken flavored baby food for breakfast :giggle:

The wounds on his back really seem like they're healing, but i'm afraid he has new little wounds on his body... i want to take Fivela to the vet next Friday or Saturday morning, we'll know more about it then.

Thats great to hear! I keep thinking about him, give him kissies from me! lol :giggle:
Hopefully the little wounds stay as are and heal!

His weight seems to have stopped at 350 grams the last couple of days, i'm not very worried cause he's eating better than ever and at least it's not going down, but it's still 100 grams to go until he gets back his old weight!... Go Fivela, eat!... :D

Also, his wounds crust is starting to come out!... Which means the healing process is working after all and new skin is growing beneath the crust!...
I have to watch him closely at this point, don't want him to scratch them and ruin it all... but he hasn't drawn blood on the wounds for a couple of weeks now, so hopefully it will all work out.

Gosh i can't believe he's still alive and better ^_^
Gotta go now, i think he's chewing my bed pillows... i always let him nap in my bed, but lately he began to chew all my stuff... bah, i can't even get mad at him xD
