Thanks everyone :hugs:
I appreciate your words, from each one of you!...
Moving home also meant having to bear with this really slow internet connection, but as soon as i get decent internet, i'll want to peek all your posts and give back all the love ^_^

We're just trying to keep good memories of Button, and it's a relief knowing that he didn't suffer (never woke up completely from the anesthesia) and that he was on my arms...
I'd like to ask, did this happen to some of you?... I don't think the vet did any big mistake, but how often does this happens? Cause after this experience, next time i'll think twice before neutering :(

Fivela's skin problem is spreading into his whole body, so as the itching... let's hope this meds work out, or soon he'll be covered in wounds all over his body. It's 3 am here, that's the time he scratches more and i wake up with his squeaks... i have to pick him up and get him to bed with me until he calms down.
The two kids are too quite... i think they're noticing that Button isn't here...

What anesthetic did the vet use?

I'm so sorry that the loss of Button has hit your family hard. I've never lost a boy during a neuter, but I've not had loads of boys neutered. I have lost one girl, who was let go under anesethic. Sorry I can't help more though :(

I personally have never had this happen to me. I know of a couple of people that have lost rats through surgery. It rarely happens, but usually it's because of an underlying problem (like a heart problem). Hugs to you.

These types of losses are unexpected, and as Lindy says are usually caused by an underlying issue no one was aware of. Its one of the risks of surgery. but saying that, I have never had a loss, and have neutered at least 25 boys...and spayed a lot of girls.

Do you have pain meds for Fivela? These are the first priority? If you don't maybe we can figure out something OTC (over the counter you can purchase) there for him.

Yeah, an undiagnosed issue like a heart problem (that wouldn't easily be diagnosed without symptoms showing) sometimes causes unexpected losses. I'm so sorry :(

I've lost two girls, one to DIC - Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation (unknown etiology, perhaps brought on by stress) and one 24 hours after surgery, she never really came around 100%. Unknown cause as well.
I feel much safer sticking to gas anaesthetic, with no injected sedation. With the gas they come to almost immediately after the surgery. ie I feel they are more likely to die from the anaesthetic than from shoddy technique.

The method used on Button was suppose to be really safe, no injections, just gas :(

The meds the vet prescribed for Fivela are:
- Stronghold, to prevent any parasites
- Fucicort, a cortizon ointment for his wounds
- Marbocil, antibiotic given orally to him
- Flagyl (Metrodinazol), also antibiotic i believe
I'm not sure if any of these work as pain meds, but i asked them to the vet, so i hope at least one is.

Do any of you know if it's ok for me to touch Fivela and let him on my stuff without any restrictions while he's with this skin problem?
Cause since he wakes me up all night scratching his wounds, i began to bring him to bed with me, to keep an eye on him and be able to sleep. The vet said it was ok, but i don't think he knew that Fivela sleeps on my bed xD

None of those are pain medications, so watch his scratching, you might need to pick up infant inbuprofen liquid and dose him. I would think it would be fine to have him in bed with you. Enjoy

None of it is for pain?? But i specifically asked the vet to take care of that :(
Fivela's been with this meds for a week now, and he isn't any better. I'm not going to the vet again so soon though, i'm still out of job and spent all my savings on vet bills already, including Button's neuter... i just can't afford it now.

Could you please help me with the dosage then? I think i still have it at home, from that time when Button got a respiratory infection, someone here suggested the same thing.
Fivela weight dropped, he weights around 350-400 gr now (used to be 400-450).

Fivela's just scratched his ear real bad, his face is all covered in blood... i let him lick a bit of liquid ibuprofeno from my finger, the dosage is 20 mg/ml.

Also, today he drank water from his water bowl from the first time in the whole week. He used to drink a lot... i have no idea why he stopped.

Discomfort can make a rat stop eating and drinking. It takes weeks on meds to show improvement. The really angry look will settle to a healthier less angry pink. Pyo can take months to heal.

Can you take more pics? Closeups too just in case?

He's been on THIS meds for a week, but he's been on meds since the week before Christmas... that's more than two months now.
I'll try to ask a friend to use her camera by Monday. Thanks so much for the help hun, i feel kinda lost with this situation :(

Perhaps a new syntom... Fivela doesn't seem able to control his bladder anymore... i noticed lately that he was lefting pee and poo on places where he didn't use to... and today i was picking him up, and he just pee himself as i picked him. He's never done that before, i don't think he was able to stop it from happening.

Is this somehow related to the pyodermia?... :sad3:
I'm gonna call the vet tomorrow...

i have never noticed this as a symptom. I am still hoping to see more pics...there are other things it could be than Pyoderma, but its the most likely culprit.

I still need to ask my friend to use her camera... i'm gonna do it right now, but she'll one have it tomorrow (if she does). It was my fiance who had the digital camera... i only own a traditional one, not fit for this kind of emergency :?

Fivela is especially sleepy today, but he did ate his baby food (the only thing he does eat for real) and seems to be moving fine... he's just really sleepy. Maybe it's my fault too for having the heater on, but it would be that or the cold, and today was a really cold day.

Gosh, his big black eyes are so expressive, even with the wounds and no hair, he's just the cutest thing ^_^
Lately he began to steal stuff from my working table and hide it on a drawer, and it's just so fun watching him make his nest with my bills and tissues... the other day he was trying to carry the whole baby food bowl into there, silly boy xD
We're just enjoying our time together :)
