He's not doing so well anymore :(

Yesterday i was out for most of the day, and when i got back home i saw he had made all the wounds a lot worse, again... His cage is in my bedroom, and during the night i could listen to him scratching himself over and over, and even when i got him in bed with me, he kept doing it.
This morning, my grandpa noticed Fivela's fur missing in some areas, and it's getting really thin too... i'm afraid he may have developed some skin problem. I'm gonna call the vet today, and ask about that pyodermia thing.

I would...the main thing is pain control (metacam is the best) to stop the scratching and allow things to heal. Abs and pain meds are what usually works :)

Good luck!!!

Yes, i just called to let him know Fivela's isn't doing much better, but we have an apointment tomorrow and i'll ask about the podyerma. Thanks, i guess Fivela really needs luck! I could use some sleep too, he always choses the night time to scratch himself :gaah:

I'm not sure Jo, it's kinda hard to find the translation for this kind of words... but the ointment has a lot of cortizon (i think that's how you say it?...), it should work as a pain killer. I believe the injection we're giving him every morning is suppose to help with that too.

I'll have news tomorrow... Button (the agressive boy) is coming with us too, to finally have his neuter!..

Oh wow , I just read this whole thread through , I dont know why i missed it before but i am so sorry about everything! Your poor rattie! I really hope they figure out what is wrong so at the very least if anyone else ever goes through this your experience will be able to help them . Stay strong , your doing so wonderful :hugs:

Thanks Ewa :hugs:

We just got home from the vet, he vet thinks that Fivela may have developed a specif type of pyodermia, one that makes the rat infict wounds to himself. We're keeping the cortizon ointment, but he added some stronger meds, tomorrow i'll come here and tell you which ones, now i'm just... grieving.
I also took Button for his neuter. It went fine, but he took a long time to wake up... and 15 minutes later he wasn't breathing. The vets tried to wake him up, and his heart beat for a while when they gave him adrenalin... but with no sucess. Fivela and i went home alone.

I've had a rat dye on me before, with the Little Blue Man rescue, but he was only mine for a couple of hours...

I've also had dogs die, but this is the first time my pet rat dies, a rat i've grown into knowing and liking... it's still somehow, surreal :sad3:
The vet was completely broken too, i really can't blame him, he did his best. We really can't find something he had done wrong.
But it feels so lonely now, without my shoulder rider... and the little boys, Syd and Floyd, they'll miss their big boss :(

Here's a pic of Fivela and Button together, not that long ago. R.I.P. Button

maria I am so sorry. You have gone through so much heart ache with your little guys lately and yet you arn't pointing the finger at anyone. The loss will be with you for awhile but I hope you take some time to stand in front of a mirror and look at the wonderful caring person you see.
Hold your head high and try to keep smiling, there are many people that care.

Oh my goodness .... :sad3: I am so sorry to hear this , so unexpected , I wish I could do something for you , this is all happening so close together :hugs:
