Thanks Fidget, definitely something to ask my vet, although, there was no bleeding in the lungs, the actual bleeding is only in the urethra.
I'll be reading up on those other viruses.

Tests have come back and it's not a toxin, not mineral or a metal like lead. So still no answers at this point. Guelph is still working on it though.

I'm really sorry to hear about all this problem with the rats. I hope they get better and recover. It's very odd as to what is going on and I'm a bit concerned since I have to treat my 3 girls with revolution because we suspect they may have a bought of mites. I took them to the vet yesterday because Jazzy's eye was watery and had some discharge. Turns out she has an eye infection and was put on some Vetropolycin ointment in the eye. I mentioned to the vet that Jazzy and Branwen both have some scabs around their shoulders and I've heard them squeak to each other on occasion when they are grooming each other. Just in case, my vet advised me we should treat them with the revolution. I have a question about that too. I was told it takes a while to dry on a dog or cat, so if it takes say a couple hours to completely dry on a rat, should their be any concern for the girls "licking" it off of each other? Should I separate them for an hour or two until it dries completely? Please advise.
Julie

Rats only receive a single drop, approximately .02-.03cc. It only takes a minute to dry completely. You can keep them separated for that minute, but by the time you dose them and get them in the cage, it's mostly dry anyhow.

Whatever it is going on with Jo and her family's rats was not related to the Revolution.

We are 99% certain it's not the revolution. So no worries about that. I was talking to my vet about the safety of these drugs. She told me that ivermectin is the safest of the bunch but that Revolution is also completely safe.
If you can separate your girls, then I would do so, just so they don't lick it off but I've heard others say that it dries real fast.

Unfortunately, we have another bleeder. This time it's Henry, mamarat's boy. He's seen the vet, he's not in any distress, bleeding very little but will be getting scheduled vitamin K shots... just to be on the safe side. Please keep your fingers crossed for sweet Henry.

I am so sorry to hear about Henry. The last few days I was thinking that it's been a while since your last rat got sick, that maybe you guys are out of the woods.... but not daring to hope.

My heart goes out to you. It feels neverending.

I am so sorry that Henry is in trouble ...
Like godmother, I was hoping that whatever it was had run its course and died out.

Hang in there Henry, mamarat and everyone else.
:hugs:

Us too!! But if it was, shouldn't he be showing some discomfort? The little bugger came running to his mom this morning, grabbed a cheerio and started to popcorn away, thought better of it, came back to search for the other hidden on in the hand and then popcorned away all proud of himself.

I have had mild UTI's where the only symptom was the blood in the urine, not the pain.
