Sorry but why did you ask then if there was anything you could do? I would consider PT an end-game and no further surgery should be attempted.

I never said I was considering surgery ....

I try to do everythign I can that will help them, maybe there was something I could do to help slow the growth of them? (but apprently not) although they will probably grow slowly anyways

the Bromocriptine may also help which hopefully I will have soon.

I already know PT is the end game, I don't need soemone to tell me that.

I don't see how it's different from surgery on a rat with tumors other than pituitary ones, but it's fine to not have surgery and I'm interested in others opinions too. I suspect he biggest reason people don't is the shortened life span. Also, I believe bromoctipine helps mammary tumors too, if I'm understanding what I've read properly.

Ah, you edited your post. That's fine if you won't, but since you asked and surgery was all you really can do that you're not already, I brought it up...

^ I would thing surgery would be too stressful on them with PT ..its not because their life will end soon ..if surgery was the best option, even for 1 month of life I would do it ..but I would think surgery is too stressful on a rat with PT.

A PT rat doesn't heal the same way at all.

Aki had a tumor removed and soon after she showed the symptoms of PT...the wound never healed, its like all those normal processes stopped.

I do surgery to prolong life but if the life is already so compromised that the tumor won't affect the lifespan I opt not to.

2 days after Aki's tumour removal

March 10th, you can see there's been very little healing

She passed on March 14th

The steroid should shrink the tissue of the tumours hopefully...but that's about all you can do. If they are small she will likely go before they can become a real problem to her.

Took a few pic's of Hannah chowing down some ensure and mushed lab blocks with Eve.

One of my ferrets had surgery because her spleen was enlarged. Her organs looked unusual so the vet did a biopsy. It turned out she had leukemia. She died several weeks later. I really regretted having the surgery, because her last days were spent sore and recovering. I wouldn't do surgery on my pet if I was pretty sure they were going to die in a couple of months, just so that they would not have that pain on top of the rest of their problems.

:joy:

Just got a call from my vet. He has access to both Cabergoline & Bromocriptine.

We have an apt On Thursday to discuss which one we want.

I am aware that the Cabergoline is more expensive but I can afford it.

Which one do you guys suggest for us to get?

Also, Hannah is still on the 0.5 pred ..she is no worse if anything a little better ..it will be a week tomorrow.

Do we need to stop the pred very long before starting one of these two? And do I get dex shots for her while waiting for the meds to kick in? I can't give dex myself, she would have to be brought in for them.

If anyone has has information on either of these drugs that I can print off it would be great!

I am SO happy :D

No idea on the cabergoline but do know the bromocriptine did work on some rats, I would stick with that. Keep her on the pred...Issa is on dex because that's what Munn uses, you don't need to switch.

Okay, vet apt got bumped to tomorrow instead :joy:

I'll talk to him and see whats best!

So keep her on the pred until we give her the first does??

Atleast we will see how the meds react with mammary tumors :)

Kaia's little one Darlen has been on a low dose of pred since Nov., Issa was recently put on dex after a regression, I would say keep her on it while she is on the med as well.

Okay will do, keep it at the 0.5 dose, or bring it down to 0.3?

I will!

Finially got some pictures of her eating:

Starts out well:

Somewhat stable:

She is still very bright & holds her tail up high, full of energery.

Spaz, keep using the baytril too right?

She has also started nipping more & her balance when eating is worse ..first she was just eating low to the ground with 2 paws, but now she tries to eat with just one ..:(

Should I increase the pred?
