Oh that is sad. I am glad you didn't get upset with him when he left then. It was very understandable in his case.

Yeah, she has an eating disorder :( ..second time in hosp now for rehab.

I understand why he can't do a whole lot, so I am holding nothing against him.

I had to bring my bunny down for a neuter rechk just then, I told him about Hannah ..and he agrees that it sounds like early PT and than PT can cause mammary tumors (like Jo said) ..I left the information with him regarding the Bromocriptine ..but he said it will be a few days (since he has so much going on right now) ..so we might get it, we might not

I'm glad we have her on the pred early this time, my last to cases were put on late, and had very little time.

I'm doing what I can,, and that is all I can do.

That's too bad that it will take that long. The earlier you start the Bromo the better for the rats. It has been found to actually shrink the tumour. All pred can do is alleviate some symptoms by reducing the tissue swelling.
Hopefully it's a very slow one.
What about talking to the other vet about it? At this point, this might be your better option, especially if it means you can start it sooner.

Like I said, there is nothing I can really do.

He has the information now, so it might not take that long, he might have something on it tomorrow, who knows.

He is under a lot right now, which is understandable.

Im doing what I can, and what everyone else has done before this bromocriptine came about.

The more people tell me its too bad its too long, etc ..the more I feel like **** ..I can't make the damn stuff myself so I have to DO what I can.

She is in the VERY early stages right now. You can hardly tell her balance is off.

How will I know this is PT for sure?

Last night (24 hours after her first dose of pred) ..she was still only slightly off balance ..falling off the back of the couch (which she never does) and her perception is off (I was feeding her muched lab blocks on a spoon at the end of the couch, she kept falling) ..her right eye is slightly biogger, still nipping at fingers ..only head bumping at times. Got her to eat a cheerio last night (the night before was just a treat) ..and she holds the cheerio almost on the ground (but with two hands) ..gave her dry oatmeal as well, and she never tried to pick it up, just ate it like a dog (which is not normal for her)

This all sounds PT related to me ..but im unsure ..since my only other 2 PT cases I never noticed until they were full blown.

Am I being paranoid here? or ? does this sound like early PT (for those whoo have delt with PT early on) ..am I giving the pred too soon :panic:

I am trying to stay strong and not be a complete mess like I was with Momma. I know there was nothing I could do to pervent this, and I know crying won't make it any better.
I need to be strong for Hannah and be with her all of the way.

My poor girl, only less than 4 months ago she had 3 mammary tumors ..which I got removed and her spayed to pervent more from coming back ..but more came back anyways :( ..then she got a mild resp infection, finished up her meds three days ago, and now this (PT and TWO mammary tumors -- even after being spayed)

Poor girl even had cysts on her ovaries, so spaying her was a good thing.

She has never had any problems until recently ..and its killing me.

She has always been my girl ..she came to me with Bella from the pet store (the last two I ever purchased from a store) ..they were there for atleast 5 months ..I went to get one, but there were 2 there, so I got them both - Reason for going to get one rat was becasue Sophie and Momma loss Alice and they needed a friend.

When Hannah came to me, she was very scared, now she is a very happy girl who loves people.

Such a pretty girl

Hannah is still doing great.

Still the same signs, but no worse.

She loves mushed lab blocks, still goes crazy for veggies and treats.

She climbs ladders well, sometimes she falls off the shelves :giggle:

Hannah is still doing well.

Lilspaz how long do I keep her on 0.5 ml?

My vet has been in contact with Dr. Munn about the Bromocriptine yesterday ..he has to figure things out with the pharmacy to try to get it because it is very powerful ..so keep fingers crossed for Monday

Keep her on it until she seems relatively stable then reduce it to a maintenance level.

What do you mean by stable in regards of these symptoms:

- Nipping at fingers
- Walking Slightly unbalanced (more so the back legs)
- Right eye slightly bigger
- Head bumping at times
- Holding food low to the ground but not resting.

The big things are nipping and unbalanced in the back legs.

Head bumping I have only seen the first night (the night I started pred) ..but it was at random times ..not constant

Thanks, I'll keep you updated.

Hopefully I get the Bromocriptine Momday ..you said your vet had a hard time getting it as well?

Another Update:

The two two tumors which are on both side of her groin are about the same size (Pea Sized) ..they don't seem to be causing any discomfort right now ..is there anything that I could do for these? I'm thinking not, but just figured I'd ask.

There has been no head bumping yesterday or today!

Still nipping (not as much) ..and balance still seems off ..but mainly on the right side (the back right leg more than anything else, ie. falling off shelves on the right) ..but she walks towards both sides and scratches with both.

Her right eye is still a little bigger.

It's killing me that I can't help her :(

Is she healthy enough aside from PT to be a good surgical candidate?

She is 24 months or older, just had 3 mammary tumors removed and a spay 4 months ago.

I would never put a PT rat through surgery.
