So my question is: where do you hang a hammock? I want to hang mine on the roof of the cage but will the rats be able to reach it? Should I put something for them to climb to get into it?

They are good climbers. I hang mine from the top 99% of the time. If you put it relatively close to one wall/side they can climb and get into it

My neutered male makes hissing noises every time one of the girls pins him (which is every time they try). What's up with it? Is he mad? Cuz he never does anything about it if he is.

Is he a nakie? My vet said nakies have a language/noises of their own. I have noticed Tucker and I'm beginning to think that fist letter should be changed  if he doesn't stop terrorizing his brother. He is learning the time out cage though. Anyway, Tucker makes all sorts of strange noises for attention and when he sniffs its really loud... Haven't heard any of my boys hiss though.

No he's a Rex. I know that hissing typically means aggression or irritation but he does it all the time, is very mellow, and ALWAYS submits to each of the girls.

You have a REX too?! Can I have him....please :) I miss our rex boy Curley, if I ever see one its mine.... maybe he's sweet talking them...

Rofl sweet talking? Sounds more like b!tching to me lol.

Guess I can't ever invite you over if I don't want to be down a rat.

There is a girl around here that has a little of everything dumbos, rexs, dbl rex and the occasional nakie...can't find them anywhere else. She owes me a favour so I said she owes me a nakie boy! Lol

Ok guys hears a question... one of my boy rats is rather fat ... ok he is really fat.... I use to make the a special dinner every other night with a little bit pasta and lots of veggies but stopped that this week because I thought it might be the reason for the weight gain.... him and his brother have a bowl of lab blocks the share and graze at all times.... how would you suggest getting him back to a health weight?

Here are some pics of my fatty boy.... I love him so much just want him to be healthy.

I would keep them on free-choice blocks and add just healthy, low-cal foods like veggies. They will still benefit from a varied diet, but can skip stuff like pasta which is all carbs.

hi, hoping this will answer my problems haha

I have 3 african soft fur rats, 1 female 2 male. The females sister who she shared a cage with disappeared last night and is suspected to be killed by the cat :( now she is alone.
My question is if I get her spayed can she live happily with her two intact brothers? or is it best to get both brothers neutered?
Will they fight over her is I keep them intact?

Do NOT put intact males and females together!

It is easier and less expensive to dona neuter than a spay. Although there are health benefits to spaying as well.
