Godmother I have the nursery cage right on my computer desk....so while I am here working (or playing  ) I can look and see them and hear them.....Oh they are so precious...and yes they have sure grown....It has been a fun week :D

Jorats I saw on Jack Sparrows post you said you liked pictures of Moms nursing babies......... so those one where for you.........

Here are a few pictures of Day 8.....
They are getting so cute......I can't believe how soft they are and when they yawn or lick their little feet...I could faint.......

I make sure I handle each one individually.....touching little paws....rubbing little tails and putting them over on their backs for tummy rubs.....so far they all seem to love being in my hand...must be the warmth :D They can be moving and crawling and I pick them up, turn them over and they go right to sleep.....so incredibly sweet.......

Oh wow! Looks like agouti, black, beige, pew and blue!!! What a wonderful litter!! Unless the lighting is off and I'm just seeing things. lol

Well there is blue for sure....aren't those two little girls beautiful...I always wanted a blue rattie..... there is beige, and black (all have different belly markings) and I think my little Angel is a PEW but I am not sure about agouti.......That would be wonderful...........I am very pleased with all the colors....I assumed my little Piper would give me a whole litter of black babies...I don't know why I thought that.....but I did......I was thinking how will I tell them all apart....

That would be so wonderful.........I just put them to bed or I would take them out again to look closer at them.........
I love agouti........My first heart rat was an agouti hooded and I have always loved that color......

I am so pleased with this litter......
I wonder...by seeing the colors of the babies, if anyone could guess what color the father was? I am just curious.......

Piper wanted to come out again soooooo.....I uncovered the babies....and brought them out again.
Took a few more pictures of the black(?) ones for everyone to look at.......
What do you think...all black or agouti....

The second and last baby, I'm almost positive are agoutis.
You can really see this in the first pic.

If those rats are agoutis then dad would be agouti carrying red or a fawn.

Yes those are the two that are lighter and look a little different.......Isn't that neat....If I would have seen Dad and he was an agouti I would have been really shocked to end up with all these colors...How did the blue babies get there?? I kinda assumed Dad must be Blue........Blue is recessive so both parents must carry it? How about the beige and the white?

If you have agoutis popping up, then dad has to be agouti based.
Black rats are aa while agoutis are AA or Aa, in this case dad would have to be Aa because of the black in the litter. Now, those beige little guys might turn out to be fawn. Both parents must carry RED which dilutes the black to beige or the agouti to fawn.
It could be what we are seeing is the beige is actually fawn and the pew is actually beige, we should know better in a couple more days.
As for the blue, both must carry blue for it to come out like that. Now, what might be a nice surprise is if one or two turns out blue agouti.

Oh the only sad thing would be I wouldn't have a PEW :( ..I kinda think Angel isn't going to be a PEW...she has a "tinge" to her.
Yes it would be great to end up with a blue agouti....maybe that is why they do have a blue look to me and not a brown like some of the baby agouti pictures I have been looking at......time will tell....
I love color genetics....very fascinating isn't it......

Well if I don't end up with a PEW I will just have to keep my eye open for one in the future....shhhhhhh don't mention that to my hubby.....

those babies are just the sweetest little creatures! I need my daily Pipelet fix, just like I used to need my Dilly fix.

I am so excited that I will get to meet the babies soon. Better check my pockets on the way out the door.....

So does that mean that Byron wasn't the father of all of Nettie's babies? He is a fawn berk, she was a black hoodie.
Babies were fawn, beige, black and agouti.

He's definitely the dad, no mistaking it... even the head shapes are like Byron.

To make black, agouti, beige and fawn, and you have a black mom, the dad has to be either agouti carrying RED or a fawn.

Byron & Nettie, also Byron & Corrie, were winning combinations in terms of making beautiful baby ratties together!

Piper had good taste when she chose Mr. Rat for the daddy to her babies. It will be so exciting to see the colours develop!

Can I trust myself to visit those babies and not run out with an agouti in my pocket??????
