Will they ever get along?

I know, I love Cleo so much she is probably the best young rat i've had, absolutely no nipping, very very friendly and lovey. I am so in love lol! I agree to keep them on the chair, hopefully soon they will love each other *fingers crossed* !

Some hissing this evening while in each others respective cages, from Violet. Violet is in her hammock on the side of the cage that is next to Cleo's cage, was hissing and smelling & acting crazy for a bit.

That's normal. Are they still having meet ups?

I don't do it everyday, only every couple days, because they both get really stressed out, but today is another 'meet' day. I put cleo close to violets cage, out of cleos cage, and violet was hissing and trying to get at her. I'll probably do it now since they should both be sleepy as they were up while I was cleaning and just went to sleep a bit ago

Well They have been on the couch for about an hour ! Violet goes up on the top where she normally goes, I set up the whole cushion section with towels. No fighting except for when Cleo had a peice of food and violet came by.. and then violet sniffs cleos privates and cleo runs and squeaks. Cleo played with me too! Was hopping around like a rabbit binky but smaller, it was so cute!! I cant wait til they get along and maybe Violet will play with Cleo

I just put them back in about 20 min ago, cleo and I were playing in cage, I would chase her with my hand and she'd jump and turn fast and run into the house, and then come back and do it again, I've never had a rat that played!

Awww, I love it! I haven't seen it before except with young rats playing with each other, but to do it with me... ahhh I'm warm inside :D They've been doing decent out with each other, a fight broke out (no injuries) while both decided to hide under the towel at the same time, so I think 'my space is my space if i'm there' is an issue yet. Hopefully soon I can put them together!

I would start their meet ups every day now. They need to see each other daily so they don't forget each other, so it's not a brand new meet up each time. You want it to become...oh it's you again. That's why the more often the better. Even twice a day intros are better.

So glad things are coming along with no majors. I'm in total agreement with jorats that the more time spent together before they're homed together the better they will do off-the-bat as cagemates.

i'll try to do it every evening, I can't do twice a day as I work, I let them out again last night and was a handful of scuffles. Violet doesn't like Cleo being where she is, especially if it's say under a towel or something like that. I don't know how they could forget as they are right next to each other in cages. Violet foot/leg injury is finally starting to heal, was odd that it took so long, she's still limping a little, but hardly at all, and uses it to jump now. What would be the tell tale sign to look for when Violet's ready to live with Cleo? I can't imagine it would be fun for anyone until Violet can share living spaces without conflict.

There is grooming here and there, but when they are out they are exploring, there's not really a time for cuddling, and Cleo is still so scared of Violet after Violet decides she has to 'attack' her (no blood or injuries). She buries her face under something by me (like my arm)

After a while say on the couch, Violet will go to her 'spot' and stay there the rest of the time she is out, and Cleo wont go by her, if she does she goes almost close and then runs away. Cleo NEVER gets tired while she is out, and I cant let her go everywhere because she still pees and poos outside of the cage yet, while Violet goes in the litter box. This morning I had them out on the papasan chair, and cleo you can tell wants to go by Violet but gets scared, and Violet just wants to be left alone it seems.

How long have they been meeting up now? It might be time to just scrub down the cage and put both girls in and see how they work it out.

They're next to each other 24/7, they get let out once a day i've had Cleo for... 2 and a half weeks, and they've met maybe 10 times in that time. I waited a while after Cleo got injured the first time, so she could heal first.

She's so goofy, This morning i noticed shes in a playful mood so I 'chase' her with my hand and tickle her when i get her and she moves so fast and whips around and pretend bites me and then licks and crawls on my hand, and then we do it all over again. I'm not sure if this is playing or if she thinks im going to get her, but there are no squeaks or anything so I think playing. I can't take it it's so darn cute lol.
