this used to be my ratcage (2 ferret cages put on top of eachother)

I loved the cage, but since i have cats (who decided cageclimbing was a good idea) my rats moved to a terrarium:

what do your cages look like? :D

To be quite honest, your wire cage is much better for the rats. They really need that air circulation to allow them fresh air at all times. I can sure understand your dilemma though with having cats. Would the cats really mind the rats?

I've got ferret nations for my cages.

EWWW, cage climbing would be very scary.

I have a FN, which I LOVE. It is huge easy to clean and decorate. I had to put hardware mesh on mine because I had two babies and my Jazmine is a very tiny girly so they could escape.

I have dogs who would love to get a hold of a running furball :?

they have a huge airframe (dont know the english word) on top of the cage and the doors are always a bit open (if a cat gets too close the rats bite him :p ) I clean the cage every week, the rats like it much better (ecspecially the old guys love their huge space on the bottom) I really thought about it, and this is the best cage for my guys. The air inside is good, they have lots of toys and their tails are safe (I know a lot of rats who got their tail amputated by a cat)

sizes: length 170cm, width 60cm, height 70cm

and besides the fact my rats love it, i love it too, i can watch them anytime now (my wire cage looked like a bunker because i gave the whole cage extra wires so no tails could hang out) it's better then TV 8)

I agree with Jo whole-heartedly. Tanks, despite how well they're cleaned or how ventilated they seem, really aren't homes for rats at all. Your previous cage was perfect!

Cleaning only once a week really isn't good enough, especially in a tank. Do you mean you spot clean daily, and do a full cleaning every week?

yes thats what i meant

btw the thing is built for rats  so the ventilation is good, better than normal tanks

where did you get the idea they can't climb around? The thing is filled with climbing attributes and toys :?

it's better cause the airframe is a lot bigger then usual, the doors can open from the front (its a terrarium, not an aquarium  ) (I even can remove the doors so the cleaning is easy)

trust me, my rats get lots of air, they love the huge space on the bottom of the cage (170cm to run around) and they wont get sick because there is no draft. There is enough aircirculation in the cage. And the best part: they won't lose their tails (or worse) by cats trying to grab one of them

the "better" cage is for sale btw

doors.jpg

I marked the doors in red  It's 2 huge glasplates which can be opened entirely. So i always leave them a bit open (3cm) on the sides, so the air can circulate

I hope you all can see now it aint as bad as you all seem to think

It does look good and if the doors stay open a bit, it allows for air circulation. I guess it's just so ingrained in us that aquarium type cages are a definite no-no, it's hard to appreciate one that is made too allow good air flow.

My ratmen's palace

I change the inside every week,so they have to explore their home again and again and again...
Thel'll never get bored
I clean the whole cage every week, but I wipe little junk every day :D

Very nice! I like the stuff you guys have over there like that little red corner house and that blue thing you have up near the top, with a circular top?

The red house isn't so little at al...it fits al 9 rats in the same time
(my cage is 162x75x85 cm and the red house is about 35x35cm)
The blue thing with the round top is called a Savic Sputnik but that only fits 1 medium rat or a few baby's :D
The blue thing you see hanging in the right,is a doggy basket witch I've converted to a rat hanging mansion 8)

I like the idea of the dog bed.

It's very simple!
You just make 4 holes and put metal rings in them....then you can put hooks on it and hang it in your cage.

It's very easy to clean and can't be broken easely.
You can aslow buy little pillows that fit exactly in it.

The rats love it!
