So 4 weeks post neuter and I thought I finally had my 5 boys reintroduced. It wasn't peaceful but at least there wasn't bloodshed. Then I came home and discovered that Walden had ripped open Wubbzy's hind end wound AGAIN. He just got off a course of antibiotics because it got horribly infected. This is going on a month and I am sick of my poor favorite baby having to suffer. I quit.

I have officially seperated my 695 into top and bottom. Walden (evil little s**t!) and Piggy (the alpha who dosen't even entertain his antics) on the bottom. The rest of my sweet and snuggly boys on top. I didn't want to do it, but I am SO over having to clean two rat cages and stress out constantly. I also think that the 3 sweet ones will be happier by themselves. It will be interesting to see how their social structure emerges. Thanks everyone for your advice and support.

Oh, I'm sorry. Perhaps Walden and Wubbzy need to cite irreconcilable differences in this separation.

Aww.. that's crappy papercrow. :(

Are you sure it's Walden? Maybe you can try again at a later date? Sometimes you just have to step back and try again a month or so later.
Splitting the 695 really makes for a small cage for three rats. :(

I am assuming that Walden was the one neutered? The silly little twerp sounds like he is too big for his now non-existent b@lls. :laugh4:

Sorry, I know that was uncalled for, but it never ceases to amaze me when otherwise seemingly docile animals suddenly turn on each other. Hey, MAYBE its ME!!! I have been fortunate enough to have always had rats that were not interested in tormenting each other so I doubt that I am in any position to understand.

I do remember reading that it can take 8 weeks or longer for neuters to have effect on their temperament so hang in there. Walden may be going haywire inside in dealing with his testosterone confusion. :)

Hey guys thanks for the moral support :( . Yeah Jo I am positive that it's Walden that is doing the damage, because for the nearly 4 weeks they were seperated there were never any new wounds on Wubbzy. It sucks to have to put three boys on top. In hindsight I think that 4 is just the right number for the 695. At least I have a bunch of hammocks up at the top that give multiple levels for them to have more room.

*Edit* I forgot to say that I indeed will try again at a later date. I'm just really frustrated. grrrrr.
