Self means no white marking on the belly. Basically all one color. The color is usually lighter on the belly, but not white.

The black girl you adopted from me is a berkshire, or berk, meaning she has white on her belly. :)

$h!t I've seen Milton and I'm in love. Darn....no more rats for me, no more rats for me, no more rats for me......

I still  old man daddy. Shelagh, I want to steal him.

Not sure how old he is, he seems a lot older and seemed so tired when he arrived. Now his eyes are bright and he's relaxed and wonderful.

BUT you realize if you really want him you would need to take another boy as well since he's used to living with a ton of rats. :D

And here you can see the RTR big boys diving into their water. They had TWO big bowls both drained dry...again!

Ugh they're so gross...they need baths desperately to get back to being white and shiny.

And no mites at all on these guys?

They are cleaning themselves up little by little...they don't smell as bad, and I don't want to destroy any confidence they have in humans right now to try to bathe them. I will try to wipe them down later on I think, they do love attention and stroking :D

Well I decided to bathe your 4 fosters Dee. They didn't like it but there wasn't even a fear nip!

The dish detergent barely made a dent on the yellow staining, its just going to take time to come off it looks like. They should smell a lot better though. :sick2:

This one is sweet!

I don't think washing them would destroy any confidence...I washed some of the Frenchies as soon as I got them so that any bad experiences in their life were gone after that final stressor, kinda like a very odd baptism.

But I'm glad to here that they will be mite free, and soon smelling sweeter! Keep up the awesome work.

The Fosters looks so pretty!! I can't wait to have them all set up here, and I already have names lined up for them.
I'm just have to add another litter box for them and their cage will be complete.

I'm not bathing my RTR boys yet because I know it will kill any trust I've made with them so far. Every rat is different. Some are more laid back and a bath wont do them any mental harm but some of the high strung ones, you bet a bath could send them into a neurotic hell hole.

Those 4 black and white cuties were very gentle and sweet, they would even sleep out in the open on their sides. Nothing was bothering these boys. lol
You are getting the best of the bunch Dee!!

Thanks Jo. I figure I'll only be fostering from here on in, as there maybe a cross-country (or sea) trip in my future...

Just finished reading over all this...ugh, some people. *shakes head* So glad you guys were able to pull all of them!

How's Eli's eye?

Looked the same to me...I popped the baytril in his mouth while he was still sleeping so he didn't get all freaked out.

I'll go check him now.

Yeah looks the same, he's nice and warm cuddled up with Gilbert, and his lungs are clear at this time.
