Quilt actually seems much improved now that the damaged tooth fell out. He's eating soft foods like there is no tomorrow, nibbling through the Subee's (now a rare treat) that we gave since it is easier than lab block, given a few nibbles to regular block, and drinking from a water bottle again.

His front paws and/or shoulders still seem to be tender by the way he holds food and walks, but he is getting less "foggy" in the head andwe can see his personality coming back more each day. Not quite back to normal yet, but I'm thinking he will be back or close to back to pre epic fall status. It is so easy to see personality and mental status changes on rats with a very distinct personality. With Quilt, he is a very wide eyed and curious rat normally, and for the first few days after the fall he just looked rather "blank" in the face.

Does teeth trimming hurt???

Not that I am aware. I doubt it is exactly comfortable though, the pressure probably feels rather strange.

Still, it is not something we are comfortable with right now, so it is to the vet when it is needed.

I had a dream last night that both my hooded ratties fell like Quilt did. It was very stressful. :?

I'm glad to hear he's feeling a bit better.

Came into this thread uber late. Wow!! I am so glad Quilt is doing so much better now! I'd be in an absolute panic if any of my rats fell more than the nightstand to the floor (Pumpkin's favourite "trick"). I never knew rat teeth grew back like that? Always?
Happy and healing vibes for the not so little man!

I have a hard enuff time trimming cat claws, I have no idea how I could even handle TRYING to trim teeth... Ahhhhh!!

Trimming teeth is an art of it's own, as it holding a rat that needs it's teeth trimmed.

Glad Quilt is recovering well. I am crossing everything for him that his tooth comes through straight.

Well, Quilt has a little nub growing in where the break was. It's about 1/4th the length of his other top incisor and is rather jagged on the tip. Obvious breaking point. His lowers look surprisingly well, one is only slightly longer than the other. I swear this rat is trying to brux both lowers on his single top tooth right now.

Overall he seems mostly recovered. It seems to have aggravated his joints some, but he is back going up ramps again. He has kept the habit of lying down to hold his food...lazy rat. Initially it seemed it hurt to sit up but now I think he's just realized he doesn't have to be bothered to sit up to eat. Other than a slight increase in his startle reaction and some residual tender movements from all four joints our little chubby boy seems to be his old self again. On the upside he has a new found affinity for cuddling now after all the holding and snuggles he got after his fall. If we flip him on his back he now washes his face. Which was the only way he could accomplish that for the first few days when his joints were so sore, and he seems to have kept the habit now.
