Glad to hear. We need to go on an ad campaign, no shoulders for HED rats!! It just gets dangerous. Quilt had the busted lips, but also extreme shock and didn't eat anything for at least half an hour, cause he was limp and hunkering. So happy to hear that Mr. H is ok!

He's doing just fine now - no more swelling or bruising. My ear is still showing evidence of Cera's nip though >.< No shoulders for her either!

It was your giving Quilt a banana that made me give Mr. Honeycomb some too, and I imagine that helped too.

I keep checking on him, a few times a day just to be sure, and so's Mom - she checked on me this morning while I was half asleep to specifically ask me if I'd put him in my room and if he was okay, because he wasn't in the travel cage (he was just out of sight in the big cage, so she didn't see him).

So my poor man has lost one of his upper teeth - it took a couple of days to fall out, but I gather that's kind of typical?

I actually found the broken piece - I got all sentimental over finding it, did a good sweep of the cage and eventually found it on the floor.

He was crabby and sore last night, but today he's been inhaling food at a prodigious rate - I just settled him in for the night with baby food (which even if he tips over is still eatable, versus Ensure which would get absorbed by the towel on the bottom of the cage). He's even doing a pretty good job bruxxing his teeth down - they're a bit pointier than they are normally, but they haven't grown too much. Yesterday the gum looked a bit red and sore (I'm guessing the tooth fell out yesterday), but today it's back to normal.

Do you think he needs the hospital cage any longer? I am sure the pain has subsided and now he's just bored. I would see if you can give him back his girls and normalcy.

I think so - I'm going to take him out a few times a day to give him Ensure and baby food (because the Pips otherwise eat it all >.<), but he's going to go back into the big cage today. :)

It already is, actually - I checked today and there's a wee bit of tooth poking out from the gum now!

He's doing kind of a crazy good job at keeping his teeth whittled down in the meantime - I'm watching him like a hawk though, and he gets as much baby food, baby cereal and Ensure as his little tummy can hold.

I came home tonight and found two of the girls asleep with him in the rat tube, all three tails poking straight out the back, warm and sleepy and happy. :)

Ack, I just realized I hadn't updated this in a while!!

Well, Mr. H. was cranky for a few days (understandably) when his tooth fell out, but he's back to being his sweet laprat self. He did an amazing job of keeping his lower teeth whittled down - his upper tooth got a little short, but not too short. He certainly enjoyed getting tons and tons of Ensure and baby cereal! I'm reintroducing him to lab blocks now, as his tooth was grown back!

Looks like it's perfectly straight, and he's happy - he's with his girls, who dote on him (and really adore having the extra yummies like ensure-laced baby food!).
