Monte seems to be doing a little better today. He's moving around more and doesn't look like he's in as much pain as he was the other day. So hopefully that means the meds are helping already.

Dr Gallon said his bladder felt fine so it wasn't that but she could feel something in his belly but didn't feel like tumor. So she's thinking some kind of infection.

I'm hoping he'll get better. If he shows signs of pain again then we'll have to take him in and see if surgery would be an option and if not then PTS I hope it won't come to that. Poor guy he's only a yr and some

Monte is continuing to do well. The meds seem to be helping him. He doesn't look at pain at all which is great! He's such a trooper

Each day he's doin better! He didn't need any metacam today! He was even running around a little! Let's hope the baytril continues to do its work.
The poor guy still has that darn ear infection. Seems like it's never going to go away maybe with him being on the baytril it will help that as well? We still do his drops in his ears which has baytril in it which has helped a great deal but it's being so stubborn!

I don't know what's going on with this boy. I went to go get the kids out and seen Monte sitting in a pool of blood!

I snatched him up and looked to see where the blood was coming from and couldn't believe my eyes. Yet another massive hole by his penis but on the other side this time.

I have never seen blood for an abscess so I dunno if he chewed at it or what's going on. We stopped the bleeding and put a warm compress on it then lifted the scab. :sick2: It stunk so bad and there was a bit of thick puss.

We got most of it out and flushed it good. I gave him his baytril that he has been on and some metacam. I'm going to get him to Dr. Gallon tomorrow. Normally I wouldn't take them in for just an abscess but this is his 2nd one since feb 4.

This all sounds sooo familiar to me. Rhys would get what I thought was abcesses all the time! They of course looked much worse on him because he was hairless and was losing weight but he had the same thing. His started almost immediately after his neuter, the first one healed on it's own with meds and he was fine for sometime but the ones he got when he was older took longer to heal and were more frequent. Unfortunately I was unable to find a way to prevent them and ended up just having to deal with them as they came. Anywho the vet seemed to think they were hematomas not abcesses, and they would burst and cause nasty blood spills like you are seeing...I am soo sorry you are going through this I hope you have a much better outcome then I. I will be following this thread as I am very interested to see if you vet has better suggestions than mine.

Anyway here is Rhys' thread if you interested. I would like to point out that he was nearly 2 at this point and he had been struggling to keep weight on for sometime, even with the extra food offered.

Monte's abscess was open today when we checked on him. It's quite the hole. We have an appointment for him at 4:10. I want to get Dr. Gallon to look at it and see if maybe she can find out why he is getting these.

I don't think they're post neuter abcesses Anne 'cause he was neutered August 2009.

Dr. Gallon thinks he has an Immune disorder. It all started with that outer ear infection that we are still battling and that has been since Oct 2009!

She's looking into this immunne booster they use for dogs and see if maybe we can start treating him with that. She's doing more research first to make sure it'd be safe for rats.

She said I'm to keep on on the baytril and she also gave us some Hibitane solution to clean it out with. She said where it's medicated it should help it flush and heal better. So we'll try that.

Poor boy. He did so well though he just sits there and takes it and licks me non stop lol as if to say maybe if I give her tons of kisses she'll let me down lol

If Baytril doesn't cut it, try novotrimel/bactrim/Septra, works great on abscesses.
