Pregnant belly

Isn't she gorgeous?

So they both arrived together in the same cage.
Shes pregnant again.
They were on pine.
NOTHING else in their cage but a food dish and a water bottle.
They were being fed gerbil food.

Ohh my

At least they're safe with me and Tara now.

She wasn't even in my house for 3 minutes
It was a dump and go.
"Here are some rats that I'm too lazy to take care of! Bye"

She never even said bye to them, and she didn't even seem all that upset about getting rid of them.

The boy is asleep with Zeke and Warren under their blanket right now. :giggle: it's so cute.

Hopefully that girl has a small litter. *fingers crossed*
And with any luck, that small litter will have thoes beautiful Variegated markings like their momma. :heart:

I'm curious as to how the babies died though.. did she eat them? Hmm.

I hope that you can give her the experience of being a baby herself once shes got this litter out of the way
Anything could have happened with the last litter. I really dont think you can trust what that girl said 100%. Maybe she panicked and seperated them from the mother or something? Maybe mom was so stressed that she just didnt look after them?

You are going to have some interesting looking ratties from this litter, lol. I hope everything goes well and everyone is healthy.

If a mother becomes pregnant again while shes nursing? Could that cause a problem?
Because that's exactly what happened.

i *think*, i could be wrong, that she just weans the first litter early so that the second litter have more chance of survival. I dont know if it causes any other problems though

Because that's exactly what happened.

Becoming pregnant while nursing another litter also forces the mothers body to split the nutrition she gets by three - some for the milk, some for the growing litter inside her and some for herself (specially since she's so young and still growing)- so they all suffer that way as well. But considering she's not nursing the original litter anymore - I would think that she should be able to grow babies just fine. Maybe just make sure you give her some extra yummies to help her stay strong.

Yeah, i think the fact that she isnt nursing the first litter - as sad as it is - is kind of doing her a favour. Do you have any Ensure you can give her on the side?

No way is that girl one week pregnant.
They don't look like that until they are almost ready to give birth.
Give mom baby cereal mixed with soy infant formula two or three times a day in a shallow dish, in addition to her lab blocks and daily vegs and bits of boiled egg.

I expect we will be looking a baby pics very soon.

She gave birth to her other babies on the 12th of December and on the 23rd her pups all passed away.

So I'm thinking she got pregnant somewhere in that time?

I'll get more pictures of her up now soon...

She likely became pregnant within 24 hours of giving birth.
If your info. is correct, she may be 2 weeks pregnant (if implantation was not delayed).

It would be good to see some clear belly shots, perhaps she isn't as large as she appears in the 2nd picture.
