As usual little Iris is as happy as I am to get home after a long day at work  ...she cannot popcorn but runs around, spins and runs back...

Has a nice normal, and balanced scratch

With a happy leisurely pull on her toenails in between

She also thinks that camera straps are very tasty :giggle:

I have been giving Dr. Munn daily email updates with pics, and tomorrow we will start every 2nd day dex and fluids as needed, and continue the oral meds of course :D I think she's finally out of the woods!!

Holy Smokes! She looks like a totally different rat now.

Shelagh, you are an awesome person. Can I drop Artie off for you to heal? LOL. :happydance:

Never mind Artie, I think the next time I'm sick, I'm going to drop me off to her! :D

Awww sweet Artie. Age is soo hard to cure. :sad3:

Wow I just got the pics from Alicemcmallis of little Iris the day she was pulled from the shelter, and halfway through her cleanup.

And here she is sleepily trying to eat a bit of banana for me this morning...

I do have some concerns about Iris. Her eye is not getting better, I am using the ointment and keeping it moist but it may need removal or something later on. About food, she's very picky and only will take about 3-4 cc's every 3-4 hours during the day at work and only a little baby cereal/ensure/catfood at night, and nothing in the AM (she needs to sleep in).

She was 181 grams and is now 174 grams a week later, that's not too bad is it? :sad-p:

:hugs:
awww, hun.... just take it one day at a time, no?
those pics of her when she first came in are horrid... those alone would give me nightmares....
poor sweet soul.
Whatever happens at THIS point in her life, you have to know she's had the BEST time with you. YOU have made ALL the difference hun...

Iris the day she was pulled from the shelter

I missed the original story obviously.......pulled from a SHELTER looking like this

Hamilton AC doesn't adopt to the public anymore, only allows rescues to come in, and sometimes will transfer some rats over to the SPCA side for adoption.

Animal Control is not allowed to treat animals, and she was to be pts along with healthy little Watermelon (whom Maple is taking :joy: )

Btw when I saw her on Sunday she was MUCH worse than this, eyes half closed, lying on her side in a strange ball, with her feet poked out straight before her...only waking up and perking up when you stroked her, held her, fed her, or cleaned her. The rest of the time she looked miserable. :(

Those before pictures are hideous (no offence Iris)!!! It's like when they get those puppy-mill dogs and after they shave them down and take out teeth; their all cute again. Iris was and will always be a beaut, too sad to see any rat (animal) in such a condition.

OMG, it's hard to believe that she is the same rat. What on earth must have happened to her?

Poor sweetie, I'm glad to see how contented she is looking now. She may not be out of the woods yet, but at least she has a compass & food & shelter. :tumkiss:

Hope the eye starts to heal as well as the rest of her has. Iif I hadn't been following along and just saw those first and last pictures, I would have sworn you switched rats on us. She looks amazing! :hugs:

Just to expand on what Shelagh replied to this - she had been in the building for less than 24 hours, so I don't want to place blame with Hamilton AC for her being in this condition. Whoever let her get this bad and apparently dumped her outside should be tarred and feathered though.
