:hugs: watching eagerly for updates. :hugs: I'm so sorry you have to wait so long to find out, it's truly such a helpless feeling.

Are you home now? If so, go subject some unwilling participants in some forcible rat snuggles.

Hateful work. No snuggles to be got here.

I think you need to bring your hope look a like there then you can have some snuggles :)

Waiting is very difficult for sure! :hugs: So many things run through your head and emotions are raw. Take a deep breath and feel all the compassion and empathy from this site and let that be a temporary place to lay your troubles right now... :hugs: :hugs:

Got my call...nothing jumped out on the x-rays, he’s eaten some high supplement foods, and they have put him on doxy/baytril and going to re-evaluate in the morning. The tech said he still looks rough. Sigh...my baby

Bah! I am sorry you are going to have such a crappy night. It must be so difficult to leave him there instead of taking him home.....

that is it exactly...I hope they gave him pain meds along with the antibiotics...listening to his occasional pain squeaks broke my heart.

Well Dr Munn’s conservative approach last night was because he wasn’t sure what was going on, but he did tests and was waiting on results. The xrays were good for his lungs, etc. The bloodwork was good except he had very low sugar so dextrose has been added to his treatment.

At this point, the guess is that he may have meningitis which is just one of those weird things that rarely happen to rats. His urine was dilute but there was some bacteria in it, so he could possibly have a kidney infection as well.

Now that Dr Munn has the blood results back the real treatment begins. He has been switched to chloramphenicol, lactulose to help with the meningitis, high dose of metacam and medazolam to make him more comfortable. He was given fluids as well.

The new diet that Dr Munn is using for sickies (and he suggested for oldies as well) is new and was recommended at the AEMV Annual Conference in Seattle not long ago.

Lafeber’s Emeraid diets.

When you take 4.5 parts Omnivore and 1 part Herbivore it is a fantastic supplement for rats and balanced. Zeus really enjoyed his and ate it all up.

We are giving him another 24 hours to see if there is any improvement (even just with the support therapy)...if there’s nothing we will let him go, so his condition is very guarded. Dr Munn will be keeping a very close eye on him today and really really wants to give him a chance.
