Not Toby??? Poor baby... I'll be sending plenty of get better vibes his way, you can count on that! And I thought he looked better in the last pictures... :sad3:

he still sounds like he wants to keep going. Declan's lungs are completely and utterly shot, with pulmonary abscesses and a very hard chest wall. He drags himself along a few steps, then stops and breathes, then off he goes again. He gets anywhere he wants/needs to go on the floor and his eyes are still bright. You are just in the end game that's all. Cooler extremities are normalish for an older rat as their circulation isn't as good as it used to be.

Thanks Lilspaz.

So pretty much all I can do now is keep him comfortable, try to keep the stress level down as much as I can ..and enjoy him while I can.

My biggest fear, is that he will go on his own from not being able to breath at all, but I also fear bringing him in, because it will be so much more stressful on him since his lungs are shot and he stresses so easily when excited or being poked at ..so I don't really know what the best way for him to go is? ..both ways suck :sad3:

Right now, he sure wants to keep going ..he may not love his hard food as much, but he still snatches treats, olive oil bread and baby cereal from me pretty quick. His eyes are still so bright too.

When its time for him to go, he won't care about being poked and prodded. Its not time yet obviously.

He still looks great, in that pic, not even poofy.
That's what we do here as well, make then comfy and happy until it's time.

He looks fantastic to me ..but his breathing is not too fantastic ..picking him up, taking him out ..stresses him so much because he can't breath very good ...so now I have been laying his cage on the floor with the door open and letting him come out on his own, in his own time ..when he is in his cage he is really good, but either bit of excitment ..his lungs are shot.

Took a video, of him enjoying treats ..you can hear his sounds ..you can also see he takes breaks. The begining is slow, watch right to the end.

ETA: The congested squeaky sounds are coming from him (they sound all nasal to me), and he is also developing HED.

At times is looks great, other times he looks horrible ..struggling to breath. I'm prepared to bring him in at any time.

Toby is being spoiled today, he gets a little bit of what I eat :)

Noodles, yummy

His gone :sad3:

He was out on the couch with me the whole day (he was so happy, nomin food and getting cuddles. I went to the store to buy some ensure, and came home to him throwing himself at the cage bars and biting them (something he never has done) ..I opened the cage and e threw him self at me and jump on the couch and started gasping. We rushed to the vet, and Dr. D. agreed that it was time. When he wen't ..blood poured from his nose and his mouth - dose anyone know why this would have been? :sad3: (there was no blood while we waited for Dr. D. which was about 20 minutes, but as soon as he went, Dr. D. said blood started pouring out ..when he brought him back to me, his mouth was full of blood, thats after Dr. D. cleaned him up)

Momma now has all her babies

I'll miss you terribly Toby

I am currently at work ..I ended up being 45 minutes late ..I'm not off till 730 tomorrow morning ..I'll do his memorial then.

I'm so sorry, sweetie... but Momma will be happy - and I'm sure she was happy that you were able to take care of all of her babies from beginning to end. ::hugs::

Oh no... I'm so sorry Renee... :hugs:

He had a long, happy life with you, and you made his last day something to remember. As you said, he is now reunited with his whole family. Play hard at the Bridge, Toby, play as hard as your little legs let you, now that nothing is stopping you no more...
