Yogurt can be given but not at the same time as the meds... you could give it two hours before or after doses

I feel silly - he didn't give us Baytril, he said it was something else that was in the same family. I can't remember what the name was. I thought it would be on the bill but he only charged us for the check up so it isn't listed. And gave us more Doxy to last for a month.

The good news is she isn't dehydrated at all. The bad news is that her lungs sound terrible and he doesn't have a lot of hope that she can recover, but he's of course open to keep trying things.

And he weighed her - 210 grams

Doxy alone will do nothing (or very very little), hence no change since you stopped the baytril (or whatever it was). You need to give it with another antibiotic for it to work effectively, like baytril or zithro.

I would go back and ask for another.

Did he give you ciprofloxacin?

That sounds familiar, is that in the same family as Baytril? Either way, he wants me to give it with the doxy now so she'll be on both.

Likely any antibiotic that ends with "floxacin" is similar to Baytril. That and the Doxy should give her a good chance. fingers, toes, and paws crossed for her. Sometimes vets prescribe an anti-inflammatory to help the lungs work better. It must be a tough call: Pred reduces lung inflammation dramatically, but it also works against the antibiotic. If the new med combo does not help, maybe the vet will consider that approach.

Thanks, Godmother :) I just gave her scritches and loves from everybody and she cleaned my thumb. I told her I would pass that to all of you, so imagine all of your thumbs to be a little cleaner!

I'll e-mail him to get a sure answer as to what it is. Pred sounds familiar as well... but I can't remember if that was a last option. Medicines all sound the same to me :(

At least the "floxacin" part sounded familiar. :laugh4:

He already responded to my e-mail. Said he added Marbofloxacin and Prednisone. Is it okay to give her all these at the same time?

I will have to look up the marbofloxacin, but its definitely a fluoroquinolone, and pred is good to add to the doxy. THIS is a much better and more effective treatment.

Ahhh I looked it up, others might know the marbofloxacin by the name Zeniquen.

Okay, cool. Thanks everybody!

Nibbler and I hung out together in the bathroom with the shower running. She cleaned my hand afterwards and took her meds happily along with a small piece of watermelon. Hopefully things will pick up in the next few days.

She has those shiny "I'm ready for this" eyes. :cuddle:

I was wondering why my thumbs looked so clean this morning when I woke up...it all makes sense now

I really hope all those meds can make your Nibbler more comfortable. I'm glad she has her appetite back now. Lots of strong vibes coming her way. Keep us updated on how she's doing.

She ate her meds in baby cereal, and ate more cereal after.

A few hours later, she let me hold her for a half hour - I usually can't hold her for 2 seconds before she crawls away.
She's now clicking and opening her mouth when she "breathes"

Anybody know when the meds should show some sort of improvement? I'm assuming about 3 days, but I hate seeing her like this so I'm getting impatient.

Does she look like a fish breathing? If so she is likely gasping for air and is in some sort of respiratory failure. This is very serious I would get her to a vet immediately.

Not so much like a fish. Kinda seemed lime her nose was stuffy or something. I took her into the bathroom with the shower on and she stopped right away and went back to "normal".

Thanks everybody :hugs:

I let her out to relax during the day, and put her back in the CN last night to get some cuddles from her buddies. Badger was running on the wheel for about a hour earlier (noisy and rattles because she's so heavy) and after it stopped I investigated. Nibbler is sitting on the wheel - I don't think she wants anybody to run on it right now. LOL

We also got our humidifier to work again and she hasn't been making silly noises since. So.. that's good. =)

EDIT: VIDEO! She seems a little better this morning <3

She looks like she's got some energy back. I really hope the meds are going to help her out, and  on having the humidifier working again, I'm sure she'll be glad to have help getting rid of some of that congestion. I'll be away from internet for a few days now, but I'll be keeping her in my thoughts and hope she continues to look and feel better.
