I wonder if that is what is confusing everyone....all boys. Cause even the "girls" don't look exactly like my girls when they where little. There seems to be extra space.......I remember mine being very close together.......

There is 3 sets of pics up so far...
First lot of pics (pg.16) to the very untrained eye there is no difference at all
Second pics (pg. 19) it looks to me like there is 2 or 3 boys in there definately - but it could be the angle of the photographs
Third lot of pics (pg.21) they all look the same again

I think that this is going to be a nipple counting job LOL (loving the smilie Jo :laugh4: )

How long after the 'nipple test' do you see testicle's on the males? im guessing a few weeks later?

For what it's worth... we had a girl about her weight... maybe 3 weeks older... she came in with a litter of 14... and sadly she was already pregnant again and had a litter of 13......

Yeah....and LOOK what happened to her babies!

Sorry, I couldn't resist :giggle: That's my Sophie....and her sister Stella is even bigger!

Come on Lilith...tiny litter, healthy babies.
:eek:fftopic:
Kinda late for this question.. but exactly how much does Sophie weigh She's HUGE!

My grand-daughter and I have been following this post from the beginning. CongRATS, Shelagh! Ashlyn keeps asking to see the pictures of the babies and keeps claiming they are all girls and TWINS! I'm not sure how 8 babies = twins, but hey, Ashlyn is only 6. :D

Never question the logic of your 6 year old.... she may be right! 4 sets of twins equals 8. :bunnydance:

As long as she sees them as "twins"... she won't be comparing them to "Octomom" :D

So I seem to be a little insane about not sexing these bubs...one more try with bubby porn. :laugh4: I am seriously starting to think i have a litter of boys...

Sophie and her sister Stella are both over 900 grams. Stella has lost weight now (they both have CHF and have been on meds their whole lives. They still carry a lot of extra fluid) but was 980grams in her top weight. Sophie has always been the trim one :giggle: at 930.

All kidding aside. Some of the weight is definitely fat, but they are also very large females and also CHF sufferers.

People usually look at them and then say something like "Those are the biggest rats I"ve ever seen......what? those are GIRLS"?

Ok, back to Lilith babies! :happydance:

Awe, those tiny little babies!!! Sure wish I could help on the sexing, but they all look the same to me. ;-).

Oh I love their markings. they are all going to be gorgeous!

Oh and it seems that our Lilith is not double rex as we guessed, I copied Sorraia's post from Goosemoose, with permission, to explain why :)

[quote author=Sorraia link=topic=4058962.msg4612007#msg4612007 date=1250796339]
Genetically double rex is Re/Re, two copies of the dominant rex gene. A double rex only contributes one gene to the offspring, which is always going to be Re. However, that Re gene makes rex. A normal rex is genetically Re/re while a standard is re/re. A standard bred to a double rex is:

_____Re____Re
re___Rere___Rere
re___Rere___Rere

100% of the babies will be rex.

A rex bred to a standard is:

______Re____re
re____Rere___rere
re____Rere___rere

50% of the babies will be rex and 50% will be standard.

Lillith can't be a double rex if she produced any standard babies, she has to be a rex. Part of the confusion could be that rex is a highly variable trait. You can get anything from almost-straight fur to wavy to curly. You can also get anything from very thick fur to thin to very patchy fur that resembles double rex. Double rex also shows a lot of variation, from almost hairless to sparse and patchy to almost resembling a normal rex. This variation could be what is causing the confusion about the genetics behind these animals. A rex that resembles double rex can be bred to a standard and produce standard and rex babies. If that rex was indeed confused for a dobule rex, it might appear that a dobule rex produced standard. Genetically that is not possible.

IF double rex were to actually produce standard babies, then there is no such thing as a double rex. It would mean that rex = double rex and there is truly no difference between them, genetically speaking.
