If Hunter were mine I would go with the surgery. The vet seems very knowledgeable. Of course the decision is entirely up to you.

Thanks Mamarat, I want to get it done, I have never gone through tumors and surgery before so I am just looking for opinons.
The vet said if there is any risks of removal once he opens him and see's it, then he will close him back up and leave it be.

I don't want to put my opinion incase it seems morbid or that I'm just disagreeing, I wouldn't go with surgery, maybe an X Ray if anything - it's just my opinion, that's based on what you've said though, not seeing him so it is hard to tell really.

xrays wont show what it is, only where it is.
Exploratory surgery will let us know what it is, if its too risky to remove, then it wont be removed.

Well Tomorrow's the big day, please say lot's of prayers & wish Hunter the best of luck, my little guy reallly need all the good luck he can get.

It is a hard decision, and none of the rest of us are vets. I must admit that some things don't make sense to me, for example if it was a tumour that burst why is it still palpable? If it is likely to be fatal, why is he eating and looking fine now? And, rats being so small, is it possible to know that a tumour is on the spleen? If it weren't for the risk of it being a fast-growing tumour, you would want to wait til next Monday for a second opinion.

It seems to make sense to others on the Forum with a lot more experience than I have, so you don't need to take my doubts seriously. But those are the questions that I would be asking if it were my rat.

Thanks everyone, I'll update as soon as he get's home. Hopefully the lump in nothing serious.
I just need to know what it is. it's hard when you know there's a lump, but yet he is eating and acting fine.

Did they say when the surgery was going to be? I drop off Althea at 8:30-9 but the surgery may not be over until 2 or 3 (latest).

I dropped him off at 8, surgeries don't start till 9, but rat's are the first done, aorund 11-12 they should call.
