If your friend is right, and you have an even split (four males and four females), I would recommend keeping two of the female babies rather than just one. If you only keep one, it means you either have to find a home willing to take all three of the other girls, or find a home for the lone female that already has a female rat, but even then, it will be a while before she is big enough to introduce to the adult. It would, in my opinion at least, be better to keep her with her mother and sister than to send her to a home where she'll be alone for a couple of months.

the hubby says i can only keep TWO babies if i find a bigger cage... And that is not an easy task right now. i bought one, but the bars are spaced too far appart... so i have to take it back. Any suggestions on a good cage??

What's your price point? Did you consider covering the cage you bought in hardware cloth? (What kind of cage did you buy?)

im willing to go like 170... depending on quality...
The cage i bought was a ferret cage, but the box showed smaller bars, then i opened it and was very disappointed.

Hardware cloth is wire mesh that people use to cover their cages when the bar spacing is too large to keep their rats in. It can be a PITA for many reasons and it needs to be replaced every so often because it gets pee soaked, but it does the job.
I don't know what you have available in your area, so it's hard to give a recommendation. If you can get a single CN (try Global Pet Foods if you have one, they may be able to order it) locally, it may just fit your price range and you would not regret it. This cage http://www.superpetusa.com/product-list ... -large.htm I like too, but it seems like some have 1/2" bar spacing, others 1" and I don't know why. Maybe you can shop around then come back and see what people think of what's available. You'll save yourself a lot of money by avoiding the crap many of us have fallen for in the past.

Single CN = Single level Critter Nation (you can get a double too). I have a Critter Nation and I LOVE it! It is super easy to clean and reach into, and the bar spacing is wonderful for little ratties. Please note the Ferret Nation is almost the same, but the bars are vertical instead of horizontal, and have a wider spacing. So if you're interested, make sure you get the Critter Nation.

Can you get to Brampton when you go to Niagara? Flowertown Chinchillas sells them (for a very reasonable price) and you can arrange for pick up to save on shipping.

Soooo i did a sex count... and i think i have been mistaken... i am pretty darn sure there are 6 females and 2 males... and right now its quite easy to tell for sure there are two boys... LOL

AAaaaahhhhhhhhhhh Harvey Two Face is adorable at its bestest! They are all sweet and I just noticed - are they all rexes? Their coat looks too thin to be a regular coat.

my guess would be Rexes... we bought Rapunzel as a "hairless" though, she has fuzz... sooooo your guess is as good as mine. No idea what the dad was, cuz these were a surprise...
