they were doing great lastnight, so talkative, moving around so much. Rapunzel is a great mom. One is much smaller than the others, another is all dark skinned. the rest look dark hooded. They are growing so fast too...

The babies look good. There may be some markings on some of the babies called high white which is linked to a disease process called mega colon. Please look it up and have a good look at the babies. Mega colon can be fatal if the babies are prone to it, and it is important to end their suffering quickly if they are affected.

thanks everyone. all 8 are still going strong... still quite talkative too. I check them once daily to make sure they are all well...
i took individual pics of each, i don't know how to sex them, anyone care to help?

Very cute kiddos!

As for sexxing, Babies 3 and 8 are definately boys, see how the spacing between urethra and anus is wider, and there is a little "pooch" of skin there (looks like a slight swelling where the testicles will be in the future)? Baby 2 is definitely a girl, with a very narrow spacing.

The others are harder to tell because of the angle of the shots, but you can use babies 2 and 3 as examples and compare the others to them. Its pretty easy to tell once you know the differences.

They are very cute! When they start eating solids in a couple of weeks, watch for slow growers and/or runny poops. This will be the first signs you will see of the dreaded megacolon.

i will be hoping to keep one of the females, the rest will be up for adoption if anyone knows anyone... They were a surprise to me and i honestly, can't keep 8 rats... :(
Hopefully the two with white faces will be ok... Fingers crossed. i check them daily, and Rapunzel is such a good mum
Baby 3 and baby 7 are my favourite. of course 3 is a male, and im sure 7 will be too... *pout* ah well...
Thanks everyone for the tips and comments :) Really appreciate it. Very helpful

If I had them in front of me, I could tell.. but my guess is...

1- Boy
2- Girl
3- Boy
4- Boy
5- Girl
6- Boy
7- Girl
8- Boy

Just a guess!! I hope someone with more experience with babies comes along and puts what they see. I've had one litter at home, and a few litters I took in from others that I've had to sex. In person, no problemo, in photos its iffy lol

They are all some sweet, handled them as much as Momma will allow.. and please keep posting pictures!

We love babies!
It's pretty easy to sex them if you have boys and girls. Just keep comparing them to one another and you will see the difference. It's all in the spacing between their genitals and their anus. The boys have a bigger distance than the girls. It's great that their markings are all different so you can tell them apart!

CUTE!!! It looks like you might have blue rats as well as black ones!

Have they tried to clean thier faces yet? I think thats the cutest thing babies do!

Thanks Liz, I had one (the top female) out first and she tried, and then fell over. SOOOOO Cute. i totally love them. they are soooo active too!!!
Its neat to see their colors coming in, i cant wait til they grow some more ... (I say this now, but then i will miss them being little)...
Also i have three homes already lined up. two homes for sure will take two (same sex) and i plan to keep one (at least hehe). so this is actually not as bad as i thought it'd be!!! <3

My cousin came into my work tonight and confirmed she will take two females! YAY! she says after i told her about them, she researched them and talked to the kids. She is a Vet Tech. and teaches some courses at the college... Her kids are old enough to help look after them. so i think it will be a great home
