Thanks everyone! I trying not to stress out too much. Can't say the same about Wilbur though - poor guy definitely does not like taking public transit for the consultation visit! He filled his carrier with tons of fear poos, and well, the other passengers on the subway car could visibly smell it ...

These people will survive, seriously!

Ask any of them if they have dogs. 90% of them will and will also be able to compare your mini rat poop smell to that of a full blown dog fart.

These people really need to get over themselves. :stickpoke:

Thanks guys! Boyo, I really lucked out! Annabelle was unspayed when I got her, but since she was so aggressive, I made no attempt to intro her with everyone else.

I am glad he is recovering that should help with any left over attitude you might have seen LOL
Wilbur actually didn't have any attitude problems, probably since the poor guy was probably in pain. But to tell you the truth, I had a faint niggling suspicion that he wasn't completely testosterone-free. Every time I touched his fur, I kept thinking that it seemed more like an un-neutered boy's. Orville's fur became really nice after the procedure, and I couldn't understand why Wilbur's wasn't.

I am really beating myself over the head for not getting that lump checked out sooner. That must have been so painful!

So glad that he is OK and that he will not be a risk if you ever have him with an unspayed girl. I am curious to hear how his situation happened. Did he have an undescended testicle?

*Le sigh* Well, we just made it home without incident, and Wilbur is currently getting cuddles from his favorite bud Felix on the tabletop.

NOPE! They were both there and very prominent.

When I picked up Wilbur, I was able to talk with the tech that was there for the surgery (the vet had already left). She said it was one of the grosser things she's seen. The testicle was right where it should have been under normal circumstances, but it was so infected that it exploded pus all over the vet's face when he removed it. :sick2:

I am amazed...
I am so glad that the pus exploded outside his body. It probably would have made him septic and killed him if it had ruptured inside him.
I just don't understand how they don't get the whole testicle. How do you cut out half a grape?
I am so glad that he made it through his second surgery, and I'm sure he will be feeling SO much better now that that percolating infection is gone. Scritches to Wilbur!

ETA: And definitely give the bill for the second surgery to the vet who did the first surgery. They are definitely responsible for it, and if they're smart, they will pay it gladly, and with a big apology.

Just keep the fight up. I have been fighting mine for a year. Granted mine is a lot larger damage :) You can get every penny back, just remember that.

Poor little guy!

I really don't understand how a vet could miss a rat testicle. Or cut out just part of it. So it's definitely worth you asking for the second surgery to be covered by the bet who made the error.

What a relief that your ratty survived the experience!
