Bjorn is one of the spooky smeezes that came from horrible conditions in Ombra, Ontario, and were originally called the Chilly Smeezes from teh really cold conditions they lived in outside. :redhot:

The 2 boys I took in were petrified and screamers, and it took a year before they were finally much more settled. They are happy, more confident boys now..or were. Two nights ago I was on IM with Jenny telling her that Bjorn was cuddled in my arms and bruxxing and boggling, I was sooo happy since he had never done that...silly me

He doesn't even attempt the cheerio test, but you can see in his pics below the other symptoms I see.

February 5th he was happy and active

Almost drowning himself in the Ensure, they lose the concept of where things are in relation to their body. Fine motor control goes out the window

he got a sub-q injection of dex and fluids, he's lying in my lap, headbumping...I'll see how he is tomorrow...if he responds I will try the bromocriptine with him since he's only 20 months old. :sad3:

I am so sorry to see him with all those awful symptoms. Even if the steroid doesn't help it may be worth trying Bromo. Stella did not get help from Pred but responded miraculously to Bromo.

Good luck to Bjorn; he's way too young to leave you yet. ;(

Bjorn seemed a bit more alert late last night but this morning is just as pathetic. I gave him 10 cc's of fluids with a little more dex, added zithro to his baytril for his URI, and had to syringe the liquified bromocriptine into him as he was unable or unwilling to lick it from the spoon.

He's cuddled in my lap right now.

Tyr his smaller brother, got a really good feel-over yesterday and I found a small mammary tumour (if I closed my eyes I would be sure I was feeling a girl :p). Poor badly bred ratties.

I also started a case history on him with all relevant info, initial weight, dosages given, etc.

Not a huge difference tonight, maybe a little stronger in the hind legs, still won't attempt a puff, and he looks so pitiful after a bath (he had poop, and baby cereal all over him, he was positively crusty. :giggle:

I am going to try to syringe feed him Ensure with a bit of baby cereal and see how he does...if he won't take enough I am going to have to top him up sub-q fluid-wise.

Not so much this morning...10 cc's was all I could get into him, and it was a messy experience for both of us after the first 5 cc's. :p He got strangely frantic like PT rats often do...not a lot of improvement yet :/

Godmother, do you remember how long it took for Stella to respond to the bromo? Its been such a long time since Issa. Bjorn is unable to lick anything off my finger as well, so I am having to syringe the bromo into him.

I was very lucky with Stella; the change started overnight and was remarkable by 24 hrs. She went from needing the syringe to being able to lick the meds unaided in less than a day.

It was much less dramatic with Cadillac.

When I had Ginger on the cabergoline it took her a few days to respond - maybe 3 or 4 before it was really noticeable. Then she was great for a few days. She could hold peas and run around again, and her balance really improved. Then she went downhill again a few days after - not a great experience, but I guess the point is when she did respond at first it took her a few days.

Awww, poor boyo.... I hope he starts to improve. You have a distinct advantage in that you can give him sub-Q fluids so he doesn't become dehydrated (otherwise he'd just feel even worse.) Hugs for the sweetie.

Well he's even worse tonight. He used to be able to walk onto the top of their doubledecker but tonight I found him huddled at the bottom of the cage..sigh.

I gave him 10 cc's sub-q, nebulized him, gave him his oral meds...gave him a nap then tried to feed him...no go. He would clamp onto the syringe but wouldn't swallow. Very painfull (and stickily) we got 5 cc's into him tonight, and I will try him later. I am not optimistic at all. Issa showed an improvement by Day 3 of the Bromo
