Well I just knew something else was going on,. he wasn't responding, getting worse and worse. Today I got him to eat 8 ccs of food, and then gave him 10 cc's of fluids, but when I looked down I got a horrible scare. Poooor Bjorn was bleeding out of his rectum and there was a big clot on the towel!!

I am rushing him to the vet to be pts right now (gonna be very late for work :()

:sad3: Poor baby... At least, you tried best you could, and he will be leaving with a full belly (somehow, this is really important to me).

You both fought a good fight, even if it was short and not very successful. I'm very sorry you had to lose him this way... :hugs:

I am really sorry how fast things went downhill. At least you can say you guys tried your best. Now he can be in peace. I'm sorry for your loss.

I'm worried that the bromo is linked to the bleeding. I did a quick google search and in humans, you need to be careful when using bromo and if you have an ulcer.
There have been a few cases of stomach ulcers or bleeding from the stomach or intestine during treatment with this medicine. You should inform your doctor if you experience nausea, vomiting, indigestion or blood in your stools during treatment, particularly if you have had a peptic ulcer in the past.

Did Dr. Munn have an explanation for his clot?

I wonder myself. He only had 3 treatments though, so I honestly don't think it could cause that in such a short amount of time.

ETA: I have emailed Dr Munn with my concern.

I think Alex is going through the same thing with Kovu. He's full of blood in the rectum area. :(
ETA Kovu just died. :(

Kovu has had HED for awhile so I am not discounting it but I couldnt' exactly tell where the blood is coming from in the video.

I emailed Dr Munn and told him about Bjorn and Kovu, and he told Leah he has not seen these symptoms in any of his other cases (he is using it quite a bit now) but they are going to look into it.

I put up a post in the New Fancyrats forum as they have been using Cabergoline and Bromocriptine for a lot longer than us.

I'm so sorry Bjorn had to go this way. At least he's at peace now. Please do post if you find a link on another forum between the meds and bleeding. RIP boyo...... :(

Probably just a coincidence then. I know that the few rats we used it here, it really seemed like they have tummy aches on the bromo. But again, can't say for sure without a necropsy.

I called the clinic asking about the possibility of Bjorn being unfrozen (he's in their freezer) and a gross necro done to see if we could determine why he bled out.

Got my call back. Dr Munn has never heard of any symptom like this with all his cases, and he is very confident its not the bromo. He will look into the research just in case and get back to me if there is anything worrying. A necro would not be able to be performed because of the freezing.

They were unable to tell me much since Kovu is not my rat, but basically the sweet boy had a lot wrong with him, and this was just a terrible coincidence.
