Yes I meant a breeding/rodent mill. I completely don't support them, so you know. But pet shops here won't give you any details on them, let alone a location or a female / litter from one. It's all very... hidden.

I have taken her out anyway :( , it wasn't to be right now :(

She's with the other girls, playing with them and munching away happily, and now snuggling down to sleep. Poor girl. :(

Here's mum, the most content she has been:

It's going to be tricky keeping the babies warm but not too warm.

What do you other experienced people think about seeing if one of the other rats will care for the babies, even if they can't feed them? Won't some rats take to babies even if they don't have any of their own at the time?

If you are committed to taking care of these babies, it's going to be a lot of work. Keep them in that small hamster cage, keep them in the igloo and put fleece inside, on top of the babies. that should be good to keep them warm. You'll need to feed them every 2 hours at least and help them eliminate. when you take them out if you can hold them on your chest or stomach so they can get your body heat would help them a lot too.
Hang in there!!!

Thats a very good thought and a good idea. I have heard of some rats that take to babies even if they dont belong to them. I would try it. But watch very carfully and make sure she doesnt harm them.

Good Luck!
this is going to be tough for you all hun. but like Jo said make sure you're feeding them often enough, and helping them to go to the washroom...
igloo, fleece, body heat, all good suggestions....
again, good luck, i'll be thinking of you and the bubs, and please keep us updated...
some girls aren't made to mums' I suppose

4.06am here :panic: :panic:

Coffee is helping... :giggle:

Anyway bubs are doing ok. I'm feeding them every 2 hours and helping them "go". I put them under my top for the past 4 hours (feeding them with the bottle between that time though) and it seems to have helped lots :cuddle:

I'm going to try get some sleep and I've wrapped them up nicely (making sure they can breath of course!!) for warmth... :D

I'll keep you guys up to date :) :wallbang:

I did so :) It's 20 mins past midday here now, all babies are still with us. I'm actually suprised by it though :( So tiny.

Random thought, shoot me down if its not a good idea, but since your girl seems to want her sisters so badly why not take the nicest, sweetest sister and put her in with the mom and babies...see if she's calmer and will relax more and take care of the bubs? I would also advise a bigger cage so she's not right on top of them since that idea didn't work.

I was going to suggest that too but watch them so you can remove her real fast if it doesn't work out. You're doing such a fantastic job.
