The boys are home!

They went in at 9 and we picked them up at 10!
I live next to the vet though ..so thats why they are home so soon.

Doing well, Tucker is already eating and going around, Scamp is really tired and justs wants to sleep!
Both are still wasted tho lol ..they can't walk straight yet!

I have metacam for tomorrow and the next day ..can someone check the dosage for me, as one of the vet techs mixed the meds up because my vet was in surgery!

Metacam by 1ml in syringe 0.03 ml once a day.

Scamp weighs 480 Tucker weighs 490!

Pictures!!

dosage is too low for your metacam
minium of .14 cc daily for a 480 gram boy
and thats at .4 mg/kg when the new dosages are 1-2 mg/kg (.32 cc)

I just search metacam on the site and I found this:

There are 2 concentrations of metacam readily available. 1.5 mg/ml (usual) and .5 mg/ml (uncommon)

Are you positive your vet said .5 ml? Not .05 ml which is a standard dose with my vet.

I weigh mine and calculate myself.

If your metacam is 1.5 mg/ml the; (check the bottle)'
a 500 gram rat would get .07 cc's (thi is the middle of the road dosage of .2 mg/lg)
a 600 gram rat would get .08 cc's
a 700 gram rat would get .09 cc's

so wouldn't 0.14 be too much?

the old recommended dosages were .2- .4mg/kg(in this example I used .2) and in yours I used .4 (note that its doubled)

the new recommended dosages are 1-2 mg/kg but I find that rats don't usually need this much especially after a neuter.

Update: Boys are eating fine! still very tired, not very active.

They don't look very impressed! but it will be all worth it when they get to live in the double double FN! with 7 other ratties

Ill get some pictures of the vet work tomorrow!

Please send lot''s of healing vibes

Thanks guys!
They are doing much better now, must be all your healing vibes! :)

Aw, what sweet boys!

It's so funny how their pride is always hurt for a few days, then they forget they ever had such parts in the first place, lol
