It can help because rats dont like new smells, so once they get used to the new one they can simmer down a bit. Some don't, it is those that need a neuter.

I know they had collected a bunch of babies from a hoarding case, so I hope that if they're from there, they don't have any 'mean genes' from not being from socialized rats. Not sure if that can even happen or not.
