He's been back and forth since the shot. Sometimes he's really sleepy and ignores food, other times he's all over. The shot really made a difference for out time today, he's finally stopped 'playing dead' when Ed jumps him. He actually fought back and when Ed turned his back, Roy bit him in the arse and ran.

He's back to popcorning and jumping around awkwardly. His balance is still awful, and you can tell from his stupid awkward jumping.

Edit: But still doesn't want his meds. I've tried a combination of about 7 different things to mix meds into tonight and he wanted none of it. Wanted none of it even when there were no meds in it.

Although Roy has hardly had ANY meds the last couple days(I still offer, in case he'll take it, and occasionally he does if he thinks he cant smell the meds, LOL. Metro is awful for that... It must smell/taste really bad), but he's still perfectly happy, healthy, bouncing around. He actually popcorned about 2feet in the air the other day, but landed on his face, LOL.

Is it possible that somehow, someway, the infection is fought off already?

It's possible that the meds were causing him discomfort so when he doesn't take it, he's feeling much better and can take on the illness.

I was just going to say this. If an oral med is causing some stomach upset not only will he not want the meds but he wont want to eat.

So it's possible for a rat to get over an inner ear infection on their own?

I know some people rescue rats that have head tilts that are permanent but I've never seen them mention if they had to give them AB's or not, so I've always wondered about that.

So, I'm going to give it a couple more days of just baytril(there is no way in hell he will touch metro... he can sniff it out a mile away, it seems) and then take him completely off medication and see what happens.... Is this a good idea, or should I try and push the baytril for a little longer?

He's been on...
Baytril since the 9th.
Metro (on and off, when he'd take it) since the 12th.
Dexamethasone shots on the 12th, 16th, & 24th.

For almost two weeks, now, he's been acting relatively normal(ignoring his iffy/picky appetite). He has a bit of a tilt that has stuck through since he's been acting normal, but I think it might be permanent. He hasn't adjusted to it yet(still falls on his face when he popcorns).

We've had a number of rats here with head tilt. Some received treatment while others didn't and the outcome was always the same. They adapted and lived quite happily watching the world from a different angle.

Yeah, Al has a mild tilt, even though his infection didn't put me through the ringer like Roy's did. He adjusted very quickly, though, but Roy's... taking much longer, it seems, LOL.

Roy is definitely not getting used to the tilt. :\ I don't know if this means the infection is still there, or what. I know he's definitely going to have a permanent tilt, now, after how long this has been going on... I'm at my wits ends, I think he's completely better and then now I'm not sure if the infection is coming back or not. But he's not going back to lethargy and not eating... Yet, anyways... And I hope he wont. He's picking fights and running around(popcorning everywhere, even if he misfires and slams into ... say... the wall *facepalm*) still, so...

Ugh! He's so frustrating. @_@

He could just be a goofy boy...when they aren't adjusting is when they are unhappy and unwilling to move and do things anymore. He sounds like he is doing just fine, but expect a lot more of him running into things LOL
