Red Flakes on Skin?

HI My male rat has red flakes on his back closer in the middle around the base of his tail. I gave him a bath to better see the flakes, they don't seem to be moving so I don't think they're lice or anything? Please Help!

Male rats produce grease that is an orange ish colour and it can get kinda flaky looking or if it appears to be scabs he could have mites. Hope that helps!

It could be sebum. (buck grease) Older males will get this when they have a harder time grooming themselves. Check to make sure they are not moving... if they are, might be lice.

Thanks you guys! I gave him a bath in olive oil, once I rinsed the oil out most of the flakes seemed to have washed out as well, I got one of them and it didn't move or anything so I think it was just flakes ! Thanks so much

Bathe him in a tiny amount of Dawn dish washing detergent.
