7 days as of today. If there is improvement it's so slight that I can't see it. It almost looks a little lighter, but I'm not sure. The hair loss and total affected area is worse though.

Its definitely a very long term treatment. A week is just the beginning. You probably did see some lessening of the infection, go with your gut with things like this.

bug me to look at the pic tonight when I can actually see it, or if you have it on your computer can you send it to me in an email and an attachment?

I know it's long term, I read the case studies and I'm not expecting any sort of quick fix. (Seems like 4-5 months for the healing part of it, right?) Going with my gut leads me to believe she needs to go back to the vet, a better one this time. I'll send the email in just a moment. Thank you!

Yesterday's trip to the vet went very well. He insisted on a skin scrape to make sure we didn't have more then one thing causing Q's problems. Turns out it is just bacteria and self harm causing trouble. She is now on Clavamox, Silver Sulfadiazine (topical) and Metacam. Hopefully that will get her feeling better. Also I'll be out of town for a week this Saturday (very last minuet kind of thing) and Handmeafish will have them.

Thanks Joanne, I think it is. :joy: Her back looks lighter and she's much more active. And by active I mean running in her wheel, bothering her sister and being a pain for meds. :p)

I have good news and bad news. The bad news is that I think Q hates me, the good news is that it's all worth it.

While I was away Handmeafish watched and medicated both girls for me. When I came back I was very excited to see scabs forming near the hairline of the affected area. I wish I had a picture.

Now the scabbed area looks different. Overall she is much less red and more skin tone and pink. I'm going to have to get a picture with my nice camera so you guys can actually see the difference. (Photo looks bad thanks to her zipping around and my using a camera phone. She's actually looking a bit less red then the camera shows.)

I'm so glad it seems to be starting to heal a bit. How is she feeling? Is she acting like a normal rat now?
If the skin does start to scab, will that make it itchy?

It will be itchy, so more metacam and now you can use an ointment so the skin doesn't dry and pull.

Yes, I'm sure it itches and pulls. :( She gets Silver Sulfadiazine cream 3x a day to help with the healing and it seems to help with the dryness as well. Or at least she acts more comfortable and fusses less when it's applied regularly. She's still getting metacam and will continue to get it until she no longer needs it. The vet is very on board with all of this which I am very thankful for.

When the vet saw her he was pleased with her progress but thinks it's unlikely she'll regrow her fur. He thinks the tissue is too scarred and damaged. :( I hope she eventually regrows her fur, but if she doesn't, oh well.

It might re-grow...surface pyoderma is more likely to regrow their coat over most of it...deep pyoderma is not as successful.

But to give you an idea

Alright, well I'll keep my fingers crossed. Thank you for the pictures and sharing your experience.

Thanks mamarat, between the healing vibes/good thoughts and meds she really is improving.

Last night I made mash for her sister, and Q climbed right into it. Q had a grand time trying to figure out how to eat soft and squishy food, but really enjoyed it. (So did her sister for that matter.)

Q is looking much better, the redness is gone. Every now and again I see some pink, but no more red, not even close. Lots of scabbing going on now, and it doesn't seem to bother her. Between the cream and pain meds she is a very happy girl, she is still on Clavamox.
