She has been really great over the past few days :D

I'm very happy. She hates her prednisone and refuses to take it. I think that she is overjoyed lately. I gave her a treat of turkey baby food... wow was she ever happy :D

She is such a sweetie :heart: although she did accidentally draw blood the other day - she tried to groom her bum but got my finger and then kept biting down - I guess she didn't feel it :giggle: My first bite - I hope its my last. Even though it was small it REALLY hurt :p At least I didn't react!
 
Eve is having a bad day today. She looks tired and hot. So I gave her one of the Chinchilla chilling mats (the granite ones) to see if that would help her cool down a bit. She was lieing on it when I left my room.

She was having a good day yesterday, so a bad day here and there is expected. I'll give her some scratches and a nice rub down with a baby wipe and I'm sure she will perk right up. She slept in my bed last night for about an hour with me while I was watching Beavis and Butthead (haha guilty pleasure - I like to dumb down my days a bit). She seemed to enjoy that, I'll probably do the same tonight. I think that my other 3 ratties are jealous of her!

On the plus side... Walmart had ensure on for $9.00 for the 6 pack! I bought her a bunch of new flavours (usually she just has vanilla). I got strawberry which she lapped up quickly at Chelle's place and wild berry - she tried this once before as well and seemed to really enjoy it. I was going to get the orange flavour but decided against it since most of my rats don't actually enjoy orange flavour... I hope she will enjoy! I'm off to syringe feed her - maybe she is just hungry :D I'll have to share some with the other 3, maybe they will forgive me for spending so much time with Eve :p Think it will work? haha

Ummm.... could something different be wrong when she is at the water dish every second of the day lapping up water or just resting her head on the dish and intermittently lapping water?

I find this strange as I was having troubles with the dehydration thing...
 
OH there is a strange odour coming from her cage... I noticed it about 2 weeks ago. I thought it was just because of the prednisone. But back then she wasn't drinking much at all. I just made sure the cage was clean all the time (basically every other day) and I would change the bedding inside her hut every morning and night because it was damp always (she rarely moved from her hut).

I don't really know.

Maybe it's time for a vet visit and discuss her overly drinking and odd smell.
 
hummmm,

I'll watch her protein... I'm just limited - she only eats ensure with baby cereal or lab blocks when I am able to grind those up (they are SO hard!). The ensure I use is the normal kind so no additional protein added.

I did just check her cage - There were 2 new puddles that were made in the past half hour. Both were on white surfaces and they were clear - no colour AT all. And they smelled very faintly like urine, not strange at all.

This little one puzzles me more and more every day. I can't believe how well she responded to the prednisone treatment (my previous rattie wasn't nearly as responsive as this). Plus she bit me. Now she has this goin' on. Must admit she is giving me experience :D. I can't complain. You can't learn without experience. Man she is a cutie though, she just rests her head on my chest and *sometimes* bruxxes :D.

I am leaving for camping so I will discuss with Chelle (she will be watching them for me). I'll see if we need a vet visit and if its yes, then hopefully she will be able to take her.

EVERY TIME I go on vacation one of my rats gets so sick that my mom can't take care of them...

I'm going to stop going on vacation :giggle: Then no one will get sick!
 
Eve is having a not good night...

She was good for most of the time she was with Chelle though!

Last night she ate and drank all on her own. This morning and this afternoon she was OK, she didn't touch her food all afternoon though. I offered her some multiple times and she didn't want to take it - I didn't force it. Tonight I offered her food, and once again she didn't want it. I quick got her meds in but she still did not want her food after. I will try again later. She is really unresponsive and her breathing is shallow. The only time she responds is when she grooms... she didn't even close her eyes when the towel got close like she normally does. I hope that she is OK... but hopes aren't too high right now. I will make her as comfy as I can and hope she pulls through until the morning. I can reassess then.

Poor little girlie.
 
Well... Still doesn't look good... breathing is very labored and she kinda whimpers...

She slept with me in my bed last night wrapped in a towel and barely moved. I put her in her cage a couple times and offered her food and water but she wanted none. I left her there in the early morning (I really needed a couple hours) and found her with her legs in the air lieing on her back. She didn't flip over so I gently flipped her. She was still alive but man... she looks awful.

She is now on my lap, heavily breathing making honking noises...

I think it may be time :(

Poor sweetie :(
 
:( Eve was put to sleep this morning at 11:30. I couldn't bear to watch her struggle for air anymore.

Although she was failing badly, she was very peaceful when she left me.

She was a sweetie right till the end and Ill miss her.

I will post a memorial when I feel better in a bit. I was up for half the night with her and I think its finally time to relax and get some sleep and food. My head can clear then.

RIP Evey!
