Naomi is a Liverpool baby and she was two years old in April.
Last night I realised that Naomi has a huge lump on her throat and under her chin. She was unable to eat, couldn't even lick baby cereal off my finger, and I'm not sure if she was able to swallow. Naomi would move around the cage trying to find a place and position where it was easier to breathe but she was unsteady on her feet. Naomi would lie, unmoving with her eyes open and staring - no visiable sign that she was breathing. Naomi also showed signs that she may have a neurological problem. I don't think she was getting enough oxygen ... and Naomi has diarrhea. Her body temp appeared low as she felt cool. No dehydration and she is still a bit plump so no great weight loss.
I took Naomi in first thing this morning to be put to sleep.
The vet withdrew (by needle) a huge amount of pus from the lump. Naomi is now on clavamox, baytril and metacam.
The vet said she may be septic from the infection and it is possible that she may go into septic shock.
Naomi's breathing is now more visible, she still seems to have a low body temp., she is slightly more active, less limp and steady on her feet.
Naomi is unable to eat and does not seem to be able to get water out of either the water bottle or the water dish, although she tries for long periods of time.
I am syringe feeding her liquidly baby cereal every 4 hours or so.
The lump is growing so I guess I will need to draw it out with a warm cloth since the vet did not open it.
Trying yogurt with active cultures for the diarrhea but not sure if that will make it better or worse. I will try probiotics and then pepto-bismol or kaopectate if it doesn't work .... guess Iâd better head out to the store.
The hope is that the lump is just an abscess and that the lump that remained after aspiration of pus is just inflammation.
Naomi's family has a history of aggressive tumours, both Sandy (likely her mother) and her sister Betsie were pts earlier this year because of incredibly fast growing aggressive facial and neck tumours.
I am afraid that the lump is an aggressive tumour and that is has an abscess associated with it.
I didn't get anything else done with Naomi's lump at the vet's today as they were booked solid with no openings ... but they managed to squeeze me in as it was an emergency.
Suggestions for the weekend?
Suggestions for next week, if Naomi is still alive?
