I'm with digi...revo is waaay more convenient.

Your probably right, but my vet is going with personal experience. He finds revo more effective for lice, not mites.

I like revo for the ease of use but to be honest, a couple of times the revo didn't seem to work and I had to use Ivermectin. My vet prefers Ivermectin because it's got a great track record with rats. She also tells me that the ivermectin made especially for small animals is much safer for them. I'm not talking about the horse paste.

That's my vets view too. Never used revo though.

Went to the vet tonight, got Ivermectin for everyone, 0.03 per 100 grams. For 3 week treatment for 9 rats it only cost $11 . He told us to apply to the back of the neck and by the base of the tail.

Everything has been frozen.
I'v never cleaned so much before in my life.

Wish us luck in getting rid of these buggers.

Also, Toby has been off meds for 2 days now, and is still doing good :). Dr. D. gave me some more baytril & I still have Doxy and refil prescription for Doxy just incase we need it.
I have been using Baytril once daily & doxy twice daily. If he needs to go back on them, I read soemwhere that it's best to do doxy two weeks on, then two off? can anyone help me on this one?

Thanks so much everyone :)

If its looking like he is going to be on meds for the rest of his life then you could always do what my vet suggested to me: have him constantly on baytril and only give doxy (for 2 weeks at a time) when he gets really bad. My vet suggested that because after 2 weeks doxy starts to become less effective (like building up an immunity) but after a break from it, it will work again.

But I don't think that applies in your case...at the point when I had to do that my rat had been on all different med combos and was tested to make sure he didn't have any heart issues before opting for the "make him as comfortable as possible until its time to help him pass" route. If that makes any sense.

Thanks!
Yeah Toby is not that bad. Breathing has been fine. Just sneezes and porph ..just gotta keep it under control, he stresses really easily.

Make sure you're not feeding any dairy within 3 hours of the doxy - we didn't know that it cuts the effectiveness of it, and had gotten in the habit of masking Baytril with yogurt, and had to find a new mixer. Yay banana babyfood!

Yeah, I new of this. I try not to feed dairy as much as I can. Baytril goes on some whole wheat bread (not flavored baytril either) and doxy get's taken right from the syringe hehe.

Update!
Scratching has stoped, and scabs look good :)
Toby is also still off meds and doing well
