My rat named Dawn of 2yrs and 8 months randomly had his eyes start bleeding 2 days ago and when taken to the vet, the vet said he has gone blind and to consult a specialist. What may be the reason for him going blind and how much might it cost in estimate for the vet bill at WSU Pullman? We are very worried and confused because he was perfectly healthy a week ago. How might we treat him and make his life easier and what's an estimation on how much it might cost. Please any info will help

So sorry your post was missed, but Ive been ill.
As for your boys eyes, the red fluid may have been the natural red discharge of porphyrin. When theres excessive amounts it could mean illness, stress, eye injury or even an old rat not cleaning themselves. Can you get a pic or video of your rat? What symptoms are you seeing beyond the porphyrin? Is your rat acting lethargic, dopey? Could be late onset pituitary tumour etc.
