My rat has pulled out a couple of her stitches

I'll try and get a pic when she wakes up, its not gaping open she had her surgery last wednesday morning.

When one of my rats was spayed she wouldn't leave the incision alone. She chewed the stitches out before I got home. I took her back and she had the skin glued shut and that lasted another day and a half. Since the inner muscle layer was still intact (sutured), we decided to leave it open to let it heal on its own. It did. I agree with Lilspaz that it may be OK to leave it to let it heal (it has been 5 days). She may be less likely to mess with it if there are no stitches or staples.

Hi sorry i haven't updated, been a busy couple of days, she's doing well her wound is sealed and healing well even though she's pulled out another couple of staples lol but she isn't licking and gnawing at it, the staples she's pulled out were already hanging out so they were probably bugging her.

Update on Maddy, she's doing a lot better i've gotta take her to the vets to have her staples (the ones she hasn't pulled out) taken out today, i'm really pleased with her progress, i've put her things back in her cage and she's sooo much happier now things are back to normal, her fur is all shiny and her eyes are big and bright again. I couldn't of coped without the help and support from you guys though so thank you from both me and maddy :cuddle:

wonderful news!!! Once those staples come out it might look a little raw again for a bit but she will heal very very fast

Aww that is great news! surgeries are tough and even worse when the rats decide to take their own stitches out.
