The same thing happened to little Kyrie soon after she arrived. Baby girl (a little older by a week) climbed out of her martins and was heading down to see Hestia (a former Wolf) and poked her nose through the bars....Hestia slashed her and the same thing happened..same side, same wound, etc. Scary as hell, but it did heal up well. I would advise metacam this morning if you have any, as long as the bleeding has stopped. Poor little Moses.

Moses is feeling better. No bleeding.
Part of his nose has no skin etc protecting it.
He seems to be able to breath ok this morning.

Called my vet who said to put Moses on clavamox.
Was hoping the vet could reposition the tissue but no he can't.

:(

Edit: Shelagh he is active this morning and not showing signs of pain, although I'm sure he is in pain.
Is metacam safe for 3 week old babies?
Good to hear that it healed up well, hopefully Moses will heal ok too.

It's safer than ibu or tylenol...just give him a little, and just the once...or if you don't think he really needs it, leave him but watch for any signs of discomfort.

((hugs))

You must have been up all night worrying about the little guy, I'm so sorry this happened. :( Thank goodness he seems to be feeling better some today.. I'll say a little prayer for his schnoz.

He has been having trouble breathing since getting the metacam - I think it is the taste.
He is having difficulty eating ... likely difficult to eat and breath at the same time :(

Edit: breathing better and nibbling a tiny bit on a piece of boiled egg. :)

My goodness, our prayers are with you, SQ, and especially with little Moses.

You're right about it being tough to eat and breathe from his mouth at the same time being the problem. Hopefully he'll get the hang of it before too long.

OMG THAT'S AWFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :tearful:

The precious, little, nose. :sad3:

I have absolutely no doubt that his injury hurts like h3!! and it must be just terrible for you Holly! :hugs:

Nevertheless, he is eating and is not lethargic. He has you, his brother and mom rooting for him. The poor, little, guy.

I have no doubt that he will not try that again, once he has healed. What a rude awakening for a baby. :sad3:

Please give them all tender kisses on their little heads and make sure that Aaron does not show too much interest in his brother's bloody nose. :sad3:

That's horrible D: I'm glad the blood flow finally stopped, now let's hope he gets better. He's a freakin' miracle rat if so!!

Give him plenty of loves <3

OMG!!!! I just read this thread! I hope he is ok!! What a terrible thing to happen. I sure hope you catch a break soon, sounds like it has been all hard luck for your little family. Prayers and good vibes going your way for Moses and everyone there. I hope he gets better soon. What a tough night for you. :rathugz:

What a terrible shock to see this thread! I hope that he continues to recover. Poor sweet little guy; he has already been through so much in his short life.
:tumkiss: to him.

Moses is still experiencing difficulty breathing.
He is breathing through his mouth and making clicking sounds.
He isn't in respir. distress but he is far from ok. :(

He was under some blankets by himself in the corner near his mom's cage.
I could hear him breathing so picked him up.
He snuggled against me for awhile and now is more active climbing around on my arm, making poopies (well what else could you possibly call these tiny little things) and bruxing from time to time.
Just hoping the bruxing is from comfort and not from pain.
He is now back to snuggling and washing his face.

I have eight more typed pages to go on my paper ...
Guess I should put him back and go make some fresh formula, baby cereal and add new baby food.
