oh gosh!!!
Where in the heck have I been, oh yeah.... WORK!!!
GAH!
I'm SO sorry to have not been any help in all this!
Most of what i've got to say has been said, lol
I'm actually SHOCKED that Cavan Hills didn't mix the baytril for you!?!?!? weird! I have to ask that they don't for me, lol
Strawberry Quick is awesome, my guys LOVE it!
Was this person in Lindsay in a row house type set up? and when you go in, there are stairs up and if you go straight a doorway with a MILLION shoes everywhere?
Did she have a cat? and a baby?
He's SO cute!

Hey Lyndsy glad your here now. The girl was in her early twenties with a boyfriend or husband and I think she had a daughter and a yellow lab. I told her to join this forum as she seems like she was eager to learn more. They were in a small house.

I also gave her your website and told her to look into talking to you if she needs to get rid of her rats or becomes overwhelmed with them. Hope that was ok, figured it was better to give her a way out if she needs it rather then see the rats go for snake food.

I phoned Cavan and they are going to get back to me about gettting more antibiotics, and maybe a liquid form. He is still sneezing but I'm not sure how long it takes for antibiotic to kick in.

I will go tonight and get ensure and some strawberry nesquik after work.

hmmmm, maybe not the same girl...
Lindsay is FILLED with herp. breeders, and the 'left overs' go as pets, but unfortunatly they usually are quite agressive, and/or sick...
Glad you saved him, i've seen his ad on kijiji for a while, but don't really have the room to offer up help, i've got to weigh out the 'wanna get rid of' people from the 'emergency' situations at this point...
Glad you got him out, and he's seen a vet hun!

Yeah she originally got him to breed her females because they had a snake. But now they don't have a snake but obviously he keeps wanting to breed and was being kept with girls. Poor guy is going through withdrawals now that he is on his own. But he is very loving and easy to handle so he must have been handled quite a bit. I totally understand that you will only take in emergencies, you dont want to overwhelm yourself.

Cavan hills just called and they have mixed up the liquid antibiotic so I can pick it up tonight.

I got the liquid baytril. So far the first dose with this form went very good, but who knows. He is still sneezing, but the vet said after 7 days if his symptoms haven't changed then we will switch to another antibiotic.

One good thing is that so far Norman & Fiona seem perfectly healthy other than Normans lump. which doesn't appear to be growing very fast.

Geez, I was waiting for the big screwup there and there was none!
Pixie, you've been very careful to do the right things the right way. I haven't come near your quarantine efforts once. I won't say they're unneccesary, the safer the better, but I will say that almost every one of us reading your post are going "Wow, that's how we all want to be but circumstances don't allow it so we do the best we can" And SO want to hug you.
Relax as much as you can. Really, unless there's an outbreak of something going on it's a rarity for one to infect others with something. I've had 45 rats over 12 1/2yrs and never had a kid pass on something to the others. But this is a different area, I've been lucky, and safety doesn't hurt. I just think we're more likely to be in awe of you than critical of you... Hugs.

Thank you so much Fidget, hugs back to you as well :hugs: I guess I was more upset with my decision to take Logan even though he potentially could make my other two babies sick. But he was just so handsome & sweet & when I saw him in that aquarium & on pine I had to have him. Luckily I am in a position where I can afford to take him to the vet and get him the meds he requires, as well as my other two babes if they should start showing symptoms.

But this is it for awhile, three is my limit or my husband will divorce me. :redhot: I will say snowmobile season is the perfect time to ambush him, as he wants to go snowmobiling with his buddies alot, and will basically give me whatever I want to keep me from getting mad about it :giggle: Now we are both happy because I can't wait for him to get out of the house, so I can get more quality time in with my ratties :heart:lol

Oh YAY someone who feels my pain, LOL. Perhaps we should hook our husbands up for a play date and we can play with ratties ;)

Three is a really nice number. 3-6 I think is my preferred range.

Moon- yes I feel your pain. I love my husband to death and he treats me like gold  , but I wish he loved animals as much as I do. Especially my rats. He won't even touch them & says it is disgusting when I let them ride on my shoulder or neck. I set him straight and told him he better get use to it, because I will always want rats. I might take a break from them when we have kids and they are young, but once they are old enough rats will be the first pets they have other then our dogs. I want my kids to grow up like I did, surrounded by animals and respectful to all living things. I think he has pretty much accepted the fact that I will do what I want, and that usually involves animals. Just like I realize he will always want to snowmmobile, hunt and fish and spend lots of money on boy toys, he realizes I will always want to spend my time and money on animals, or our kids once we have them lol. Acceptance is key, not necessarily involvement :giggle:

Sorry for the rant

Luckily Mike is almost the animal lover I am but he's allergic to the rats and doesn't do much with them because of that. Honestly, one of my first rats was absolutely his soul mate and he's never gotten over it :(

All winter I have truly felt as though I am a snowmobile widow, though!!

Moon- I too am a snowmobile widow lol. Is it bad that I look forward to him going out, so I can take my ratties out guilt free.
I am keeping my fingers crossed that he will one day fall madly in love with a rat and see how absolutely wonderful these little rodents are. He loves our dog Angus, so there is some hope. And my husbands name is also Mike lol.

And how do you repost, posts? Hope you know what I mean
