First... we have been doing intros for a month. We did 5 or 6 days, then some neuters on the 19th then started them up about 6 days ago. During all this time we have been switching cages so this wasn't just a fast intro. They also share the same floor space and I have removed all the mean boys testicles. I do not recommend to go from one step to another super fast. If you do not know the warning signs then it can cause great harm. The problems always happen with each step. Move from scary to neutral you will have some bickering. Move from neutral to cage, you will have dominance and pecking order issues. It can be dangerous to move to fast before the rats you are introducing are ready.
That being said
My intros are done!
I cannot even begin to tell you how majorly excited I am. We tested the floor cold turkey. No scary ground. It was insane how the boys got along. They had little boxing matches but they were so textbook for male rats it was perfect to watch. They were not angry or upset at all. No one was stand offish to anyone and no one was mean. They boys were a bit stressed because they had no where to hide. I wouldnt allow them anything on the floor that I couldnt see easily. I decided with the cage doors off and the cage empty, which is something new, i never tried that before except on move in days, I would see how they react.
I was on the floor ready to pounce on any boy that was being bad...Problem is, no one did. We left them like that for hours...
They had one mean rat pile happening.
So I decided ok, lets just see how they will be with another part of the cage, cleaned it up and opened it up. Still nothing.
Ok so lets add the triple part on.... so i cleaned it up and I opened it up.
and all they did was go on the very top shelf and sleep..
I guess you can take the balls away from the rat but you cannot take the mean look away LOL
After a few more hour with the full cage doors open, I put the doors on. and nothing.
I did night time meds and fed them
That is my mean John, happy as a clam eating with the boys he bit!
I am good with judging my boys. I have to be with the amount of males I have. I have done so many intros and read so many on here that I have learned to do them very well. Jorats helped me in major ways for WEEKS with my first ones. Now I just love to share and get different aspects and help when I do get stuck...Which happens. I neuter the means ones and that makes it work. Period. Plus I have some amazing little manrats
I cannot believe it ended like this. So damn easy after being such a pain and so many injuries from through the bars! Jphn was Templeton II and he turned around fast.
Had i seen fights or anything I would of stayed on the floor but I knew once I put the part of the cage there that they were going to be ok. I believe it is from switching cages for a month and the boys are used to smelling them in the cage so their bodies were just added into what they were used to.
It is unreal though. I have had a group of 19 before but most were intact. Now I think I have a viable group of 19 with 9 of the 18 boys neutered. For now they will live in the triple. I am not concerned because they will have so much out time that they wont worry about the space. I plan on trying to get the other group with them after i get romeo and Sendai neutered then we will have them in two triple fns. Not sure how yet but we will.
I have to learn to live with a group of 19 rats! Which should be fun because that is a lot of rats out at one time.
and Yes he is Jorats! I love that little guy. He is my only blue boy after losing all mine so I think he found a void in my heart and filled it right up.
