You came on here asking for help and you have the nerve to tell me I don't know what I'm talking about then edit the post? You are beyond help...wtf do you expect us to do if you don't have access to anything? Get a taxi...yes it will be expensive but this poor animal doesn't deserve to suffer because you are an irresponsible pet owner.

All I want to know is if this is going to be fatal to my rat. So I can kill it instead of it dying of some sickness. This rats life isnt worth my rent money.

Go get benadryl because right now it's your best bet.
Not really all that possible.

Again.. live on a mountain. Go into town once a month.

We are trying to help you, you shouldn't have rats if you can't supply even basic care. There is something in your husbandry that is doing this to your rats. Whether it be a bug bite or some rare type of virus, its in your home since its the common denominator.

I don't think I want to know how you had to kill your girl, we do not approve of home euth's here...none are humane.

You have no access to any stores, much less a vet so honestly we cannot help you. I would be begging my friends for a ride to a vet right now, but I doubt you will do that. They may not the respect the rat, but you would hope they would respect you.

I can provide it everything except a vet, and Im not the only person in the world in this predicament. How bout all the other pet owners that live up here with me. You going to tell them they cant own a dog because they cant get it to a vet immediatly. Ridiculous. I need answers, not cures.

Looking for an answers, not cures. Im frustrated that my pet is dying and I CANT help it. Not because I am unwilling.

My previous rat also got sick at my old place. I moved up here a month ago, she died a day after.

My new ones came from a different pet store, so they are not from the same rats used to breed at the other pet store I went to.

For someone who is saying her friends don't care about the rat (it's only $5 and you can get a new one) you have the exact same attitude.

I have never seen this myself, I do think it may be an allergic reaction. I would advise that you watch her for any signs of discomfort, skin atrophy, etc..maybe it will pass, maybe it won't.

But if you do end up killing her, I would advise you to stay as far away from this forum as you possibly can, and NEVER get another rat until you are ready to take the real responsibility for the little lives in your care...which includes vet. Animal companions are not a convenience, or a distraction, they are responsibilities...wonderful responsibilities.

Then why can't you get benadryl?

I can get it. Only the ONE store that sells anything up here charges 3 times more than what prices would be in town, and its also only open between Noon and 6pm. Usually I work while its open, and I get off well after its closed. I never said I couldnt get it at all. I just ment that Im not going to go jumping to solutions, spend money I dont have only for nothing to work. My pet has also JUST started to get sick in the last 8 hours.

I can also assure, that I will get a new rat if this one passes. :) Maybe two so I have a back up rat.

Like xxchelle, lilspaz68 and I all said benadryl is the best solution we can offer right now. You clearly aren't willing to do anything for this poor girl that might inconvenience you in the slightest so I'm not sure why you are still posting.

See, you're just not understanding me, either. I would do anything, even if it inconvenienced me the slightest. Only, it's looks as if my only options inconvenience me A LOT. I want to do absolutely anything I CAN, not just 'anything'.

She's only been getting sick in the last 8 hours. I've been trying to figure out something from the moment I got home from work, 20 minuets before I started THIS thread, so I can atleast DO something with what I have.

Yes, I've been making phone calls and waking up angry friends and family. And as of now, I've managed to get a ride into town from my grandmother, and money being wired to me for medication from my mother.

I'm not a terrible pet owner, I shouldn't be condemned to being lonely and having to give up my COMPANIONS because I move away from a town with a vet. I'm still posting here because I have yet to be helped towards other ways of comforting her.

So yes. Thank-you everything for the Benadryl idea. I'll put it in the hat with all the other suggestions I was hoping to get. Instead of being told I'm a ****** pet owner and should have to give up my right to own pets because I can't get them to a vet in 10 minuets.

How is it fair to this poor rat to have to suffer just to please you? No it's not your fault she got sick but it is your fault that you chose to get an animal that you can't properly care for. It's like having a baby and deciding not to take it to the hospital because its too far away (and you may think that's over reacting but to most people on this forum that's exactly what it is).

Over react much? If you were paying attention to anything that was said all of us are at a loss as to what might be wrong with your little girl so our best suggestion to you was to try benadryl since seeing a vet clearly wasn't an option. As for the getting them to the ver in 10 minutes? when did anyone ever request that (as far as I can see you were only told how important it is for your girl to see a vet not given a time limit). You made it VERY clear there was no way your poor girl could see a vet which imo makes you a ****** pet owner.

When you take on a pet, you should always have the necessary funds and necessary means to see a vet. It is cruel to not provide the basic needs for your rat no matter how much you paid for him/her. There is no such thing as humane home euthanasia. What you are doing is cruel and abusive to your pet.
I hope you will think long and hard on what your responsibility is in regards to pet ownership. You have seriously failed your companions. Shame on you.
